Hi guys,

I am new here.
This is my 100 gallon tank. I started it about 6 months ago.
I am having a little trouble with algae on my sand though.
Here are some pics.

Very nice tank! Welcome to the community.
Hard to tell from the picture, but looks like diatoms on the sand more so than algae. If you don't have a cleanup crew you may want to consider one. It would probably help.

Welcome to R2R
Looking good;)

I currently have 7 hermit, 3 tonga counch and 3 trochus snails + 1 banded shrimp + 2 peppermint shrimp (they took care of a aiptesia problem I had) and 1 fire shrimp. I'll add more to the crew then. Thx

Nice looking tank! Have you ran into any issues with the HOB overflow?

I thought about running one but it makes me nervous lol what are your stocking plans?

Why nervous? Is there a problem with this kind? The guy from the store sold it to me, this is my first tank. I thought everyone had one of these, no?

I am have 4 chromis, 3 damzel, 1 mandarim, 1 banded shark. For now I think that's it. I wanna buy more corals, I might add 2 clown fish though but that's pretty much it.

I may be wrong but from the pictures it looks like a HOB overflow not a drilled overflow. Am I correct? I'm not a professional lol just starting on my first reef. If its the HOB kind I have heard of people having no problems with them and some people losing syphon and overflowing their tank. I'm not trying to scare you or say its gonna happen. I'm pretty sure if you clean it often you shouldn't have any issues.

You are right, it's the hang on type.
Oh, ok! I was scared for a second here but that's something I didn't know and now that you told me I can see the possibility of that happening somehow.

Just keep it clean and if it has the u shaped pipes, watch for air bubbles getting trapped in there. I would like to know if you run into problems though. I'm sure you will be fine.

Good luck with your tank though, looks like your off to a great start. Keep posting updates because I will be following along lol.

Updating my tank :)

Got some new fish, corals and lost some fish too :( my YT (RIP) but I've added a Sailfin Tang, a Klein Butterfly, one sea cumcuber and more guys to my cleaning crew (hermit crabs and snails). I've also added a reactor so I could reduce the nitrate and phosphate in the tank.
My sand is much cleaner now which makes me very happy!!

Yeah, real nice tank! I like your rock formation. It will fill out nicely as you add more coral. I use 2 sand sifting sea stars on my tank. Does a nice job. Not the prettiest of starfish, but they get the job done.

Nice start, but be careful. You don't want to overstock a fairly new tank. Mandarin will need live food or will starve. Get some pods.

A banded shark, mandrin and a sailfin? Great fish but are u aware of what these fish require? Any shark in a 100 gl would be pushing it in my eyes... sailfins get pretty big as well for a 100 and the mandrin requires an established pod population and the school of damsels won't allow much else in if they get established..
