As many know I have a 29 gallon BioCube that has a mixture of corals just starting out, Zoa's, a Torch, FGSP, and an Orange Digitata frag. Currently the Zoa's and the digitata are in the 120 as I had a PO4 spike and they didn't look good (when I say spike it tested at 0.04). I may keep the digitata down in the 120 as I just can't seem to get nitrates down under 7.
Anyhow, I was sitting in my chair last night thinking, my parameters are great in the 120, why not make that tank an SPS dominant tank? 0 nitrate, 0 PO4, and my salinity is low at 1.021, which I will start raising up to 1.026. Just a pair of clowns in that tank.
For filtration, I have 75lb of Pukani Rock, and an aquamaxx EM200 skimmer in my 40g breeder sump, with about 15g set aside as a refuting with chaeto at the moment but it's dying, because of no nutrients. I have a maxspect gyre 150 running at 50% quick pulses. I am thinking about getting a second one for the other end and getting 2 boxes to have them alternate pulses, controlled by the apex.
I also have more room in the basement to set up a dosing station next to the stand...and while I may not need it now if I do go with SPS dominant tank, I will have to dose.
Also, the one thing I love seeing is everyone's corals all growing together...how do you know where to place corals and what ones can be near each other and such?
Any advice or tips on the best way to start this kind of tank?
