Hello,
I'm upgrading my 75g to 120g.
Might get an oceanic dual overflow 120g... used.

Few questions:
1) is that a good tank?
2) for 120g what's best in long run... Randy's 2 part dosing or calcium reactor? What's less work and clutter?
3)i already have reef brite xho 48".... how many kessils a360 do i need for 120g?

Thanks... kris

Hey Kris...

1) is that a good tank?
In my experience, Oceanics have proven to be well made tanks. Depending on the condition of the silicone, you may want to consider resealing it. Also, does the seller currently have it set up/wet?

2) for 120g what's best in long run... Randy's 2 part dosing or calcium reactor? What's less work and clutter?
In the long run a calcium reactor will serve you best. Initially, 2 part dosing would be easier due to setting up and tuning a reactor. Less clutter would be the 2 part.

3)i already have reef brite xho 48".... how many kessils a360 do i need for 120g?
I realize you have a 48" Reef Brite. However, this doesn't really indicate if the 120g is a 48" or 60" footprint. In any case, have you looked into Noopsyche lights? They are proving out to be fantastic lights with a big cost savings over the other LEDs available now.

I had an oceanic for about 20 years. Great tank! No problems.

Hi Chris.
I haven't picked up that used 120 yet. Gonna see it soon, it's running a reef currently.
I assume it's 4 foot long!

That Noopsyche is interesting. Is that a chinese spinoff of the popular radion?!

This might prevent me from buying the used kessil (from the same guy having the 120g)! A used 360 is ~ $170....

Looks like a Noopsyche might cover a half of a 4' 120... right?

Thx....

Yes, for a mixed reef 2 Noopsyche K7's will work well. I guess you could call them a spinoff. Did you see the black box light study thread or any of the other Noopsyche threads?

I will thx....

or they are a spinoff of that long kessil pendant... either way China making these affordable!

What's the best affordable return pump that's external? I'll be pushing water from a sump to above into the 120g tank. That's say 4' high i think.

I wanna try external pumps this time to plumb spigots that can be used to run other skimmers, reactors etc....

Thx...

A buddy of mine said you could use pool pump as a return pump and would be cheaper is it something that reefers do?

they do that at public aquariums. Just make sure the pumps don't have any copper components.

If i put 2 kessil 360 over my 4x2 120g....
Should i get n or we?

I'll also have 2 t5 bulbs to supplement

Still unsure if mines gonna be 120 or more(unsure size)...

For sure there ain't gonna be sand in DT or sump....

To prevent another h2s issue like my last 75g with DSB , i guess I'll put just base live rock in sump.... and create arches in DT

Do I have to place rock on crate or any pedestal to eliminate dead spots(low o2)?
