For those of you in the Reef Club who I have met recently, this may or may not hold any interest for you, but I figured I would share just in case.

So last summer when I was re-learning reef keeping preparing to get back into the hobby, I happened upon the Reef Tutor podcasts. They were doing a two-part review on the Solana XL 60 that I was considering and ultimately wound up buying. However, the second part had not been posted. I contacted Russ, the podcaster, and asked about that part only to find that the video file had been corrupted before it was published.

Anyway, that led to an email conversation, which ultimately led Russ to want to talk to me as part of a podcast on setting up a new system. His reasoning was that he liked the planning steps that I took before I bought anything. That included detailed parts lists, 3D models, and CAD drawings that detailed the TO-BE system. So in early December, when my tank was just 8 weeks old, we had a Skype interview that turned into the "How to Setup a Saltwater or Reef Aquarium Step 1 (2/19/12)" podcast. I don't claim that what I did is the only way, or even the right way, just my way.

I will say this, that with the help, education, and livestock from you guys and gals lately, I believe that my system is going to live up to its potential as planned.

BTW, I hope that podcast link works, as I am not sure what to do if it doesn't. I don't have any podcast linking experience and I don't think you can embed them.

Cool! I will try to watch it.

I like American Reef's videos, but I always have a trouble downloading them. It seems to take forever for me to get it going. It won't stream very easily, either. iTune or not iTune. Anybody know of a trick to display it quickly?

Not on my computer unfortunately. It tries to stream the video, seemingly tying up the resources. It has to stop and let the download to catch up. I sat in front of my computer for awhile this morning, but I had to give up.

I had the same experience light night, I just started the stream and walked away. Came back later and rewound the whole thing to the beginning and it played fine. I don't understand why it is so slow, other than maybe a server bandwidth issue. I have found letting the get downloaded to iTunes provides a better experience.

I've done the same with other American Reef video. It doesn't always work for me unfortuantely, though. Sometimes my computer shuts down while I go away for awhile or someone else turns it off accidentally :( . I got to see your face this morning, Scott, though. That's where the video hung up, lol. I will try this evening again :)
