My 2.5 month old aquarium

Looks great, have you run into any problems using the black sand instead of the normal kind? I have always heard that you have to watch your pH more than if you use aragonite sand.

Not yet, I have been running a 8.0 for the last 6 weeks with one 7.7 just before a water change. The tank is at the 5 month mark this week and I am using Red Sea Coral Pro. My lfs is wwc and as they are saying that with proper water changes I should be fine. I will say that I am adding Mg and Ca when I do the water changes. When I was doing my research so out there were say this the black would actually help with the PH, but take that with a grain of sand ;)

They tell you the same thing about white aragonite, pH usually has to be adjusted eventually if chronically low.

Your tank is still young, it has time to balance out. At 5 months you should start to see some coralline algae growth.

Are you testing after adjusting the makeup water?

Lol well when you get to have WWC as your LFS you are off to a **** good start. Im jealous!
The good and bad about having WWC so close is that I can just pop in any time and spend, spend (bad) they are very helpful with everyone. When I first went in I was like these guys are very arrogant, but getting to know the crew down at WWC they will bend over back words to help you (good)

Yes, starting to see coral-line algae and the ups and downs of my parameters I have had tanks in the past. At this point of my life I would like to do this one right.

Yes I am testing after I make my adjustments and tracking what I am adjusting. I am using the salifert test kits to test. I am also using a great amount of patients and not reacting

6.5 months have a few new critter in the tank plus about 9 new frags. one went nuclear in the last two day and melted down. very unusual. my frags that I purchased in May are growing fast. but what I am reading they are a little stressed and I am working on that

my Par are
Mg 1290
Ca 410
kh/alk 8.9 they were way high at one point but coming down
ph 7.7 trying to work on that
did a water change Yesterday so the par should be a bit higher, also add Mg and Ca with the water change and will check tomorrow

thing about getting a AutoAqua top off system. this might happen this week. My question is to I hide the reservoir or make a box to sit beside the cabinet (Honduran mahogany with inlays and dovetail jointery) . I am think of hiding it in the cool box.

Also wrote a spreadsheet with chart to track prams, but if someone what it let me know and I will post it. No charge :)

Your tank looks very nice but the stand looks awesome, I wish I could build something like that, I also think the black granite is a nice touch.

All you need is a table saw, dado blade, and a pockhole jig. I CADed out the drawing and it is all mesurded if you would like I will post it. The gratine you are on you own. I cook for a living and we cater, so the granite was very discounted for catering a wedding we catered. The top is also CADed to the demotion of the tank curve

Installed a MP40 to increase the flow and also placed 9 frags

Looking great... that sandwich though.

Wasn't there also a fishtank in this thread?

Yes, this was my first post and I wanted to bury the post, and that I did not hijack another.

That looks amazing!

The house smells of fresh ground chili's and it was tough sleeping last night.;) To describe the small is a cross between fresh ground coffee with a touch of chocolate . So much better then buying the cut chili powder in the store. I should add some Guajillo pepper and smoked chipotle but buying 5 lbs cases would last me years.

Tank looks AWESOME!!!!

Thank you, the real build thread is over here link and much longer.

I should rename this one the micro and just have pictures and dates.
