My $200 dollar mistake

Welcome back to the Hobby!! Loving the tank and that badazz Harley!!! I am planning on getting the same tank for my next build. How to you like the new v3 sump. It looks like it’s a pain to get to the return pump.

Thank you! The sump reminds me of one those cars they build the entire car around the motor. Once it's in there you'll have to take certain pieces out in order to get to it. Once fully setup I'll have to remove the reactors and slide the ATO or drain the ATO to access the return pump compartment. Neither of these is going to be that difficult so I'll mostly be checking of things between media changout or ATO being dry.

Welcome back!!! Great looking tank, but I'm biased. Think my most expensive mistake was not having a quarantine/hospital tank and getting hit with Velvet. Lost all my fish;Greedy. You live and learn...I have a quarantine for fish AND corals now:)

I also ended up having to replace my fine sand bed with special grade mid cycle. My reasoning was because if I disturbed the sand, my water was cloudy for 2 days. I rinsed the original sand for a couple hours and still cloudy anytime I disturbed it.
No thanks!

Edit: Welcome to R2R!

What were you using, Fuji pink?

I have the same set up, 425xl with the Carib Sea Bahama Oolight, M1 return into upgraded Vivid split returns, and 2 Mp 40s.
I had the same issue at first but with a bit (lot) of adjustmentwith rock placement and flow and after a month or so of runnning, it seems fine.
And in my opinion, the Oolight just looks awesome.

But I had the same reaction and almost changed mine out to something coarser. But I wanted a lot of sifters. (Conches, and snails)

Yours looks great too. - Nice build! and Bike!

Yea, I like a more coarse white sand. I've found the Caribsea Asagonite special grade dry sand is about a perfect mix of grain sizes. 1-2mm. Not completely dry either, it's just damp enough to not have any dust.

I changed out to the special grade.
I have a conch and he seems to be doing good. I also have a cucumber but I haven't seen him since I got him. I don't have any sand shifters yet.

I really like the look of the finer sand but I'm happy with my special grade.
