after about of year of YouTube videos on saltwater aquariums I decided to take the plunge into saltwater
June 23 2018- me and my girlfriend decided to check out a local fish store to ask some questions and to see if a saltwater tank would be doable for us living in a small apartment and possibly moving in a year almost right away a manager showed us a fully set up BioCube 32 he had on display he was willing to part with and offered it to us for 500$ Ensuring us it would be the perfect starter and a huge jumpstart And came with literally everything in the tank tank, stand, sand, liverock, corals, snails, hermits and even the water I couldn’t say no
The BioCube before I purchased:
We could not wait to get this home and get it set back up never expecting that we’d actually buy a tank that day trying to get the rocks exactly the same was impossible and almost seemed like there was too much of it
The fog after we got it all set back up:;Nailbiting
The next day:
We let the tank sit for a week and took a water sample
The water sample came back great and we were ready for fish we chose two clownfish one slightly smaller and darker then the other in hopes that they would pair up
The first night the clowns scared the hell out of us laying on the bottom or on the rocks we even woke up to both of them floating at the top but as soon as we turned the lights on and opened the lid they went crazy darting back and forth through the rocks and swimming up down up down up down in the corners we were extremely relieved to see them eat for the first time
After 2 more weeks the clowns settled down but still sleeping at the top though by the return we also had a small batch of bubble algae growing on the back wall I went to my local fish store and bought a emerald crab and my girlfriend fell in love with a firefish
I am completely addicted to this hobby now I’ve even started upgrading the BioCube I work in construction and the stability of the BioCube stand scared me I added corner brackets to it to strengthen it up a bit the Coralife circulation pump that came with the tank started making noises and I felt it was not as powerful anymore so I upgraded to a Jebao pp4 loving the idea of a controller and to be able to control the settings and a feed button! I replaced the stock filtration with a i tank media basket and with frequent filter floss changes the water is crystal clear
Replaced the coralife s1000 return pump to a innovative marine 326 and now with feed modes on both the return and wave maker the fish make short work of the food
