My 33g looonnnggg

This sucks. You know when i siad i couldnt find the velvet wrasse well i found him DEAD on the floor under my bed!!! :angry5:

Man, my first fish loss in this tank. I guess i should of kept that egg crate around the tank. I plan to build a canopy soon....... :D

Steve

Oh yeah, and i plan on adding my jawfish sometime this next week. And probably another flasher and a fairy wrasse (again).

Stocking list now:
YWG
Perc
Purple Flasher Wrasse
Filamented-fin flasher Wrasse

To add;
Pearly Jawfish
Flasher
Bluesided fairy wrasse

and that will be it...

Steve

Hey guys i am setting up my sump up soon and just wondered how long does it take for silicone and pvc cement to be absolutly sure it is safe to run??

Steve

nice tank, you should def. get a top before you put the jawfish in, they like to jump

sorry to hear about the velvet wrasse; ive had two wrasses end up on the floor

Thanks for the info twon8.

Yeah it happens but i now have the sides and top completly covered for my Lineatus flasher with eggcrate. I plan on doing my hood in the coming weeks.

I dont want to sound newbish but i have never run a sump before. I have done over 4 nanos in the past 3 years and now i am stepping up a little bit. I'm kind of worried about spilling 20 gallons on the floor and want to plan right before i go jumping into a disaster.

The equipment i have so far is:
U-tube overflow w/ 1 and 1/4 inch drain pipe
Mag 5 with clear return pipe
10g tank as the sump
glass for the baffles
silicone and pvc cement etc.
I also have 4 feet of 1 an 1/4 inch pvc and some elbows to get to the sump
My question is where do i place my skimmer and where do i place my refugium and my Mag pump.
Heres an idea:

Thanks Steve

that setup would work fine, where is the water from the overflow going to come into the sump?

sump

Looks just like my sump! Mine is a 20 gal long tank with the baffles set just as you have planned. I have a fuge in the center section and chaeto is doing very well!

Familyreefer- The sump looks very similiar to my drawing. Why do you have the CSS on the side of the sump, instead of inside the sump?

Steve :D

Oh yeah i forgot to mention last night i siliconed the glass inside the sump and should be cured by tonight. I will water test it to make sure. I also plan to get all the pvc glued etc for a saturday afternoon startup of the sump!!!

Steve

Css

Space. I had a much smaller skimmer when I built the sump. I use the CSS as a hang on on the sump now. works great. Pulls out some NASTY stuff!

I finished the baffles 2 nights ago and i am glueing the pvc tonight so i should get a start up on the usmp tonight!!! woohooo :D

I'll post pics later.....

Steve

Ok go the sump up and running! I have the CSS hanging on the side of the 10g sump and everything is doing good. I was a little weary of the overflow failing or something but thats just me being paranoid. Overall i am happy with the upgrade, just because of all the flow i have now and plus you cant see the big old skimmer either. It was a project definitly well worth the time and money...

I will post pics tonight....

Thanks Steve :D

You mean down at the end of the tube in the sump?? right?....

I was having trouble with that last night but got it figured out...

Steve:D

nope, i meant to say in the return. Where the water flows back into the tank. Drill a small hole that will be exposed when the water level drops. You want to lose suction up there when the power goes out.

Oh yeah because in case it goes out i will be running a siphon and have 10g all over the place. will do when i go home...
