Hello everyone my name is Donald and I recently acquired my new tank. I have a 20gallon tall running right now. The 20 has a large HOB filter 20 pounds of live rock and maybe a 1" sand bed. I have. Clarki clown and an arrow crab. I'm using SLR LEDs 24" and have a basic CUC. also have a small GSP colony.
Here's a picture :-)

And here's the sump

I cleaned them with vinegar and water, patched the holes in the sump and painted the back glass

I'll update more when I can.
The tank measures 52"x12"x12"
The sump measures 18"x12"x24"

20g live rock looks sweet. Just an fyi...from your tank measurements it's 32.4gallons, sump is 22.4g. What process did you use to paint the back black. Only asking because I have to do the same... Is your new tank acrylic or glass?

I taped off all parts I didn't want painted and used a flat black acrylic spray paint. I went with spray paint because I didn't want any streaks on the glass. The spray paint went on smoothly and evened out pretty well. I only had to use two coats. It was less than a can for my back glass. Hope that helps. The new tank is glass it was custom built for a LFS. It even had the baffles in it so they could separate the livestock. I removed the baffles. The sump is acrylic.

I got the stand done and the plumbing hooked up. It's running right now but I still have to fix the overflow. It's way to noisy! Someone told me I need to put a piece of PVC in the bulk head coming up toward the top of the overflow. So that the overflow area fills up more. I don't have the correct size PVC and the hardware stores are closed so I'll have to wait until tomorrow after work. Here's a picture of what it looks like so far.

The return pump is a Triton 3 it's rated at 850gph. I like it so far, it fit my budget and it's very quiet compared to the noisy overflow that sounds like a constant toilet flushing. I plan on having a refugium area in the sump so I hung a light and put a "grow bulb" in it. I don't know if it will work on cheato algae or not but I'll update as I go. The tank currently is just fresh water I'm just trying to work out the kinks. I plan on adding the salt soon and "seeding" it with some of my live rock and sand. I don't want to take my 20 down until I am absolutely certain the new tank is ready and all levels are good.

Beananimal.com has a silent overflow concept that is interesting. Might be good to look into...

After looking at that website I realized I've been saying overflow in relation to the area in my rank that's drilled. I don't know what that area is technically called. I'm sorry for the confusion or wrong use of words. I'm still kind of new to the hobby.

About to turn out the lights and saw my bulkhead leaking....
The tank is unplugged for now until I can look at it tomorrow. Hopefully it just needs to be tightened.

At work contemplating on how to hang my lights over the new tank and hoping the bulkhead just needs to be tightened. I have some wire and hooks I was hoping it would look good just hanging them from the ceiling. The wife's not I happy about that though, I don't know if it's for cosmetic reason or if she's just nervous about dangling lights over water. Also been thinking if I could use my HOB for anything I have two and was thinking maybe some type of mangrove area on the back of the sump. A lot to think about today.

So I went to the hardware store and picked up what I hope will fix the bulkhead. I also drained the sump and put a baffle in before the return pump. I'm waiting on the silicone to dry now. Crossing my fingers now hopefully everything will be in working order so I can mix the salt, add some sand, and live rock to seed the tank. I also need to move the lamp more centered in the refugium area.
Meanwhile my arrow crab still thinks he's king of the 20g

I think I got it the right height
I also added a barrier above to help keep the macro and other things in the refugium.

I've never made one before and I'm sure there are better ways, but I do have to say absolutely no bubbles make it into the display. I'm just waiting now for the silicone to cure before I run the system. The tube says 24 hours so I guess I'll turn everything on tomorrow night.

Good news the bulkhead isn't leaking anymore! I cleaned the seal and put a little more elbow grease when I tightened it. I was nervous about over tightening. The baffle is working great and thanks to the knowledge of everyone else and a few websites including (beananimal.com) thanks 55g
I was able to make a durso style overflow and it's a lot quieter. Now I just need to wait until this weekend when I'll breakdown my 20gal and put everything in the new system.
