I've been waiting a while to start this and share my journey. In 2009 I was working at Petco and took advantage of being in the industry , I picked up a 55g stand and canopy for 100 got a fluval 405 as a return that was thrown supposed to be thrown out and a coral life compact flourescent light and started the tank

I let it cycle for a bit and threw in some damsels

By this time I had added a cascade 500 to the fiktration and a couple more fish mated pair if clowns and a green citron goby , all 3 were inhabitants of the 29 destroyed by worms ,

So I let a couple moths go by I picked up 4 aqueon fans 2 500gph and 2 750gph. Added a royal gramma , a sand sifting goby , a butterfly fish a hawk fish and a pink urchin!

Now it's about the summer of 2010 my tank was up for a few months it looked great I had some polyps and some candy nems , it was getting real hot out. I was doing water changes 2 times a week to put cold water in. Do fish wouldn't die ,, one week it was too much I lost the polyps , the nems , the urchin, the goby (watched him die it broke my heart) and the hawkish). Took a big hit. After that week the temps went down. And the clowns the citron clown goby and the chromis survived I didn't let it beat me and I continued to work on the tank. I placed a six line ( died last week) and a hippo tang in the tank ... And of course I got ich and the ya k was dosed for weeks almost months it seemed

Love butterflyfish, but they require food that's natural to them that's available all the time. They'll look like they're eating, but actually they won't grow at all and will slowly over a year waste away without a proper diet. What are you feeding yours?

Winter if 2010 I traded my butterfly for some credit and began to add some corals a couple mushrooms and some polyps they hung in but didn't last long ( I was using tap water and didn't know what I was really doing)

I was feeding live brine shrimp. But got rid of the butterfly in 2010 to start a reef

That's the one thing that I hate about butterflies: the fact that they'll eat coral. My Long Nose was a star and didn't touch a thing, but it got stressed by some obnoxious anthias and died...

After 2010,, my tank stayed stable for 2 years when I moved so I packe it up in 10 buckets and moved out While resetting the tank my bulb blew. And I was short in cash then so that began the dark ages. I had some small light and some crap that didn't work too well. For a year.

Now it's June of 2013 my ya k is in a new home and I just bought an odysea 4 bulb t5 fixture with moon glow LEDs. And I began my reef !

Sad thing to lose a fish are Anthias bullies??

Anthias are some of the most peaceful fish around, actually. Mine were a trio of Bartlett's anthias, and two of them were fighting to see who would become the male of the group. With butterflies, even fighting among other fish can send them into a death-spiral. I refuse to put any in small tanks anymore.
