We're, my 5yo and I, are on day 49 of owning a SW tank and we love it.
We have 4.2 kg (9lbs) of LR in there with a brittle star. Have no sump or protein skimmer, just running two filters one on each side of the tank as one side wasn't getting enough flow through it. but with both filters running now it's much better. Think we might be getting some green coralline growth on the live rock now. it's pretty cool watching things grow in the little ecosystem you create and try to keep safe.
Have had a mini cycle occur when we added the brittle star but LFS said the nitrite spike was perfectly normal and it would settle down. But to be on the safe side don't add anymore livestock until this has settled. They're a pretty good LFS so their advice is usually spot on.
Thought I'd share our lovely tank with the rest of you lovely fine folk.

Thank you Peace River. I’m glad to be here. I love scrolling through the forums here. There’s pretty much everything here you need to know. Although I did do a lot of research first before deciding on a set up. Seemed to me that saltwater seemed to be less problematic, but a little more expensive when setting up. But I’m glad we have our little invertebrate friend. He’s doing well. Behaving like it should for now. Hope it stays that way.
