My tank has been up for a little bit more than half a year and I have 2 clowns and 1 cardinal. Here is the list of fish I am planning on adding, let me know if this works:
I have a 60g long tank with an aqua clear 110 hob filter. I'm going to add a fuge and skimmer soon.
1 Melanurus Wrasse
1 carpenter wrasse
1 tang- possibly a small yellow tang and when he gets big ill trade him at an lfs
1 type of blenny
1 mandrin dragnet in about 6 months once I have a refugium and a stable pod population.

I would wait to add more fish until you install the skimmer. FWIW I've used HOB skimmers with success. I like the Reef Octo HOBs. But in sump skimmers work better IMO. I've also used HOB fuge and it worked well too.

The "tang police" will say you need a 6' tank for any tang. I think a bristle tooth (as in White Tail Bristletooth, Kole or Tomini variety) is fine for that size tank. I have a Blue Tang in a 55 gallon and a Flame Fin Tomini in a 33 gallon. They are both very happy:D!

I have had aggression issues with bristle tooth tangs and blennies. My Flame Fin is the only tang of that type that gets along with my lawnmower blenny. I had to rehome a yellow eye kole tang and square tail tang because they constantly harassed my blennies.

I have a; melanurus, lubbucks, filamented, pink streak, cleaner and pair of yellow coris in the same tank with no aggression issues. I have rehomed a 6 line and pin stripe wrasse due to agression.

I think your choices are fine once you have the added filtration.

Except for the Mandarin. They can be difficult to keep. Think about a dragonet instead. They are similar, not quite as entertaining, but unique none the less. I love the Ruby Red Dragonet. I have a pair in my RS 425. They seem to do well in an established tank for me.

thank you so much for the recomdeations, which hob fuge did you use?

IMO a Tomini or Kole or one of the smaller Bristletooth Tangs can go into a 60 (good that yours is not a cube) for a while but eventually they’ll need at least a standard 75, 90 even better. For a 60 I’d do:

1 Melanurus Wrasse
1 Carpenter’s Flasher Wrasse
1 Royal Gramma / Assessor
1 Shrimp and Goby pair OR Cherub / Flameback Angel
1 blenny of some kind
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Mandarin Dragonet

Save the Tang for a future upgrade.

First get that skimmer. Also I like that list but considering that the 2 clown, wrasse and depending on which blenny you get, will eat pods I’m not so sure you’d be able to keep a mandarin

Yeah I think OP should probably ditch the Mandarin. Hard to sustain especially in a small tank with a wrasse competing for pods. So once he gets the skimmer he can probably get both the Pygmy angel and the Gramma / Assessor. 9 fish would be like the absolute maximum for a 60 and only because his is a 4’ tank.

I used the CPR aquatics medium size HOB refugium. The supplied light worked good and it grew Chaeto fine. I ran this setup for about a year before adding an in cabinet sump and now have the fuge in the sump.

its 60g long, about 4 and a half feet
Nice. Most of the fish you picked will work fine. I would still skip the tang. A dwarf angel would be a good substitute. Flame and coral beauty are popular choices.

The melanurus will constantly eat pods too, so be prepared for that with the mandarin. A fairy wrasse wouldn't be as hard on the pods.

If you get a pod eating wrasse in that size tank, I'd skip the mandarin for sure. As others have suggested, a dwarf angel can be a good substitute. A yellow-eye kole is a good choice if you insist on a tang and honestly, the yellow is likely fine, just not ideal.

I've had multiple tail spot and bicolor blennies. Great fish, just wished they'd live longer.

Skip the mandarin and everything else looks okay to me.
