Just wanted to share and track my progress with my 75g semi cube. It was a custom tank that I purchased used about 5 months ago. I was able to keep rock alive through the move and only had a very short cycle before I was ready to go. Things have been going great overall. I have a bunch of frags in there right now. Just waiting for them to take off.

My setup includes:
Custom tank rimless- 30x24x24
Maxspect Razor 180w 27" LED Fixture
Super Reef Octopus 1000 skimmer with bubble blaster pump
Vortech MP40
Mag 7 return pump
Auto top off system
20g sump breeder tank- nothing fancy

Current fish:
1 bangaii
1 starry blenny
1 firefish
2 clowns- skunk and ocellaris

I'm hoping to add a couple wrasses to the mix soon.

Majority of corals are LPS, but there are a few SPS.

So, my ATO is not working correctly. It was a homemade one, and i was never very fond of it. Lately, it does not turn off even though the float switch is moving. Being that it's homemade, it's never felt entirely safe to me anyway...in terms of being an electrical hazard. (As an aside, I switched my tank to a GFI outlet a couple months ago, and it started tripping almost daily! For no obvious reason that I could see. I wound up switching it back, just because I couldn't have my system turning off constantly like that. I always wondered if it could be the ATO causing the electrical issue.). Anyhow, I ordered the Tunze Osmolator today. Can't wait to give it a try. I will probably switch back to GFI after it's installed just to see if that was the problem. Anyone else ever have issues using a GFI for your tank?

So I installed the tunze osmolator. It works perfectly. My only complaint would be about the pump they included. It seems kind of cheap and it runs quite loud. I'm going to have to play around with it and see if I can reduce the sound. My last ATO was virtually silent other than a slight click when the float switch turned on. :/

I have 2 new additions to the tank. Flasher wrasses- royal and yellowfin. I am maxed out on fish now. Tank is doing well - the osmolator is still loud though. At least it's only in short bursts.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I have been using the Mag7 pump for a while. It has been very reliable, but recently it started to get increasingly louder. It was driving everyone in my house crazy. So I just switched to an Eheim compact 3000. Was a little tricky getting it plumbed. There is no threaded fitting on top, so had to buy some vinyl tubing from Lowes to attach it. It is much quieter though. While I was at the lfs buying the pump, I scored a nice little rainbow monti for $5! The tank is looking great. The new wrasses really swim out in the open, something I was missing from my previous menagerie. Here are some updated shots.

Thought I'd do an update. Fish-wise, things have been disastrous. I had an ich outbreak, so I decided to do the right thing and go for a fallow period. Already about one month in. Lost a few fish during this, but am now rethinking a new fish collection. The survivors are in my 25g QT tank, but I made trade out some once I am sure they are healthy again. Coral-wise things have been just amazing. I added an Eshopps dosing pump and began dosing 2 part a month ago. Wow, growth has been ramping up! I also added some fun inverts to keep the tank interesting during the fallow period- some sexy shrimp, peppermint shrimp, and a red linkia star. Here's an updated FTS.

Haven't updated this in a long while. Tank is going well. Had a rough few months though. My flasher wrasse took out most of my fish, so I did a 3 month fallow period. Back on track now. Current fish list is:
Tomini tang
Neon goby
Bartlett
Lyretail
Clown
Also have a chromis still in qt.
The tank is now almost 14 months in.

Can't believe how much this tank has changed. Two years old this month.

So, 5 years later, I am in the process of re-imagining/restarting this tank. Stay tuned…

So I am going bare bottom with dry rock. I created my own rock creation back in May. Tank is up and running. I was able to transfer my eshopps bio lux columns from my mature tank to this one (sump) so no strong cycle. Right now there is just my clown and some mushrooms from previous setup. They have been in there for a bout 6 weeks now. The uglies are well underway, but slow and steady. I am in no rush. I am still thinking on livestock. Most likely will be mixed reef in the future, but I will begin with lps and softies for the first year or so until it is mature. I am happy with the look though. Any thoughts on livestock appreciated. Here are some pics from May/June.
