I'm new to the site and I just wanted to start a build thread so I can show you guys what I have.
As the title says I have an 80 gallon tank. It's the deep blue frag style and I love it. The 24" width is so nice. The goal of the tank is to start getting into SPS corals. I've had good luck with LPS and softies so I want ti try SPS. I've done my best to set it up in such a way that I can keep really low nutrients and have a lot of flow and light.
For equipment I'm running a lot of recycled stuff from my old 55 gallon. This includes my homemade sump made out of a 25 gallon tank. I have an ocean runner 650 GPH return pump and my NWB110 skimmer (undersized for now but I have to wait until tax return time to upgrade). Plumbed in before the sump is a 15 gallon, holding 13 gallons, cone bottom settling tank. I also put together a water change manifold to drain the settling tank and then refill with fresh saltwater. Lighting is two 120 watt full spectrum LED fixtures from reef radiance. They're basically the same thing as the reef breeders or any of the other LED lights out there. They are very bright and will definitely be enough for the high light corals I want to keep with the shallow 16" depth of the tank. For flow I have an MP40, will be picking up an MP10 this coming weekend and I will be using the WP40 that's in my 55 when I fully break that down. I also splurged and bought a reef keeper lite plus to run the system.
My aquascape is a somewhat bonsai setup that I used pond foam to hold some pukani branching rock and shelf rock.
So far the tank is all setup and cycled. I have to move a fish or two in this coming week after things have a chance to settle. I've been stocking up on coral in preparation and I'm running a coral quarantine tank in a 20 long. I have a bunch of stuff in there now. Mostly LPS and zoos but I've been grabbing some SPS this past week. I'm hoping to start getting coral in there in another month or so depending on how stable things are. I have done Kenya trees and colony polyps to test the waters with. Corals include a nice Duncan colony, candy canes, branching hammer, a good sized acan I got yesterday, 4 or 5 different zoos and a torch coral. For SPS I have 6 acros which I am unsure of the names other than a red planet, a green encrusting montipora and a branching montipora. I also have a toadstool mushroom.
Here are some pics. Thanks for looking and any suggestions are welcome!
