My 92 Gallon Bowfront--New Additions 8/9/10

Hey all, I thought that I would post a thread of my tank. It is a 92 gallon Oceanic Bowfront that a friend of mine had(lost everything in the last hurricane in our area(Gustav) last year. It has been up and running since July 09. It is LPS dominated with a few palys/zoas and colored sticks. The aquascape is very open to leave plenty of space for my brains/acans/chalices.

Equiptment:
4X54 T5 bulbs retrofitted into the canopy
Octupus Skimmer
Mag 9.5 return
20L sump

Fish:
Female Leopard Wrasse
Yellow Coris Wrasse
Black Cap Basslett
Lemonpeel Mimic(Chocolate) Tang

Most of my corals were transferred from my 3 1/2 year old Nano Cube:

Hey Deron,
Sweet setup, I love bowfronts. Looking forward to seeing it develop.

No doubt bowfronts can check out to be very nice setups!

Thanks!!! The only problem is they are a challenge to scape with the limited width.

I added my second Lamark's Angel last night--the first one decided that Acans/Brains were better tasting than fish food. The tang and angel are having a little power struggle, but hopefully they sort it out with limited damage. Thanks for following along.

Update--I have had a couple ups and downs the last couple months--I added a 2nd Lamark's Angel and he also was an LPS eater so he had to go. I had an ich outbreak and lost my favorite fish, my chocolate tang and my black cap basslet(will now do a quarantine). Fortunately, my leopard wrasse and yellow coris wrasse are doing well and have shown no signs of ich. I will leave those by themselves for about a month before adding anything further. Bobby came over and took some pictures of the wrasses as I couldn't with my point and shoot camera. Anyway on to the pictures and growth--colors have come back since adding some more nutrients to the tank and the pictures are pretty close to true life. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!

Nice update, sorry to hear about the recent problems, but glad to see everything doing well again

My Lamarks also continually nipped at my LPS.

You don't have any problems with your chalice stinging all that SPS beside it, or is it downstream from them, making it impossible. My green chalice will sting anything within 4 inches of it.

The colors you have are really great. I like the open feel to the tank.

Thanks for the compliments!!

Glad I'm not the only one who had a not "reef safe" Lamarks!! If you look at the green chalice on the bottom left you can still see one of his marks.

The chalice is downstream from the SPS, but it also doesn't have real long sweepers when it it open.

Yeah, I fed well and everything, but he just kept going after my open brains, my acans, and my war coral. Enough was enough, so he was banished to my fuge/anenome tank. Still happy as can be, and fat as ever, but at least now he's leaving my LPS alone :)

That's a great Trachyphyllia.

Great looking tank...hoping that i can get one of this going in the future!! Got a great spot for a nice corner unit!! You have some awesome colors going on in there too!!

Thanks!! I think T5's make a heck of a difference in lighting/color.

I fed well also, but she really liked big puffy LPS--like my brains and acans. Luckily they were quick to recover, but the chalice not so much.

I ordered a mag rock from www.aquamags.com and don't really know what to think. It is a lot smaller than I anticipated and for $30 just doesn't seem worth it. The nice thing is that it will add some extra space for some frags and I plan on adding some montis or other SPS to it and let them grow. Let me know what you think about the placement. Lastly, it doesn't show in the pictures, but it has been in my tank for about a week and have a bunch of brown hair algae on just the new "mag rock." I am guessing it is leaching some phosphates and will have to brush it from time to time. Thanks for looking!!

Update time--I have added a few pieces including a rock anemone and a small orange scoly. I have a chocolate tang juvenile in quarantine at a friend's house and plan on adding 4 small dispar anthias in the next week or so. My remaining fish(leopard and yellow corris wrasse)have been doing well with no signs of ich or problems so it's time to start stocking. Everything has been on auto pilot with weekly 5 gallon water changes. I have had a couple small issues with a candy cane falling into a lobo(lobo won!!) and the mag rock that I added is full of hair algae so it must be releasing phosphates as the rest of the tank is clear of algae. I was playing with the camera, so I tried a couple different shots. Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.

Love the wrasses and all the LPS in the tank. I know you didn't like the mag rock, but personally, I think it adds a lot to the aquascaping.

Thanks and I think that it's kind of growing on me--except for the hair alge:bigsmile:.
