Here's an update on my build.
Quiet literally currently im doing more actual building than aquarium management.
But ill start with what's going on in the tank first.
I did scrub the algea off of the inside of the tank. I did this late last night. This was after I found some older blue (don't know what brand, spectrum anything) LEDs. I used some silicone to stick them to the underside of the hood. I have been able to make the PS board operate the lights successfully.
White on one line blues on the other. The fish are still being medicated so I'm not to worried about aesthetics at the moment. I ran the lights both sets pretty much all day today, and I've been gone all day. About 11 hours.
So I just get home and notice that one side of the tank has algea, green algea, growing heavily on it. Just since I was gone.
Did not expect green algae to begin growing in the SW environment, at least not yet.
I was concerned about so much FW substrate being in the tank, but after testing the water a few minutes ago I can find nothing wrong. PH is a little low, but pretty sure that's because of the Hyposalinity. Since much of the substrate at the moment is crushed coral and shells I guess it kind of fits.
Fish are happy and eating well, male does seem to have equilibrium issues, but not badly.
My LFS gave me a decent piece of live rock and it had a white node on it when I put it in the tank. Now it's turning green. Not algae green glowing green. Cannot identify this.
Its something because it was white, now its green. I had the lights off and turned the whites on to take that but it really pops under the more blue light.
They won't stay still but I caught the side of the fish that had the bad white infection no,sign of it now. I also caught the other fish right where I wanted. That spec in his eye concerns me. Better but present still.
Other than that ball is well in the tank.
As for the build, I absolutely cannot spend more on this right now responsibly.
However I decided I am going to use the 5 for a small sump. My post about transferring water with my well pump was no joke. In order to run it continuously and make it quiet I am going to use a washing machine universal motor and an alternator, the alternator keeping the motor running. I've tested it and it works. I've broken down equipment for a cleaning and new bearings.
This has got to be the most unconventional way to build an aquarium. But it'll look pretty retro, and deffinatly unique. And I have spray paint
