My Acro Collection

Nice sticks, you call this a frag lol? Or is this tank a transfer from an old system, it's only 1 month old right?

This is a frag from Copps actually. He gives generous sized frags. This one was actually almost twice as big, but it broke in the bag and I have a separate large frag of it too.

Yeah it was probably about that size. I also got a frag of 2 different stags that were each about 4" long. Check him out on reef central if you're interested in frags. He sells a couple times a year. He has some really awesome old school stuff that has been in captivity for decades and is hard to find anywhere these days (like 20k lokani, OG purple monster, etc)

Nice, if only reef central wasn't the worst lol. I will def follow him on there though. Thanks

Cant wait to see more of your corals, you have some really nice color.

Well, wanted to post this updated shot of the growth I've seen on my WWC Jelloshot. This coral has absolutely exploded with growth in just 4-5 months since I've had it. First pic is from my last post, second pic is from today...

However, it is with some sadness that I have to report that I need to remove this beauty from the rock work because I've discovered my tank has AEFW. Fortunately, this is the only "colony" with extensive encrusting I need to remove, so it's not that big of a deal to treat the tank. All corals are being removed from the rocks and placed on frag racks where they will be dipped once weekly for the next 4-6 weeks minimum. After I'm certain the tank is pest free, I will be starting a very strict quarantine protocol which involves a minimum of 4 weeks of weekly dipping in a separate system (already set up) and another 4 weeks of observation and one final dip to be certain there are no pests.
All of the corals I own came from just 6 different sellers over the last 4 months (I had an empty tank prior to that). 2 of them are big vendors on this site, the other 4 are hobbyists. I have a pretty good idea which one it may have been, but I'm not going to call them out because I can't be certain. So, one of them or all of them have AEFW as well and either don't know it or do know it and didn't bother to disclose. Additionally, WWC admitted to having black bugs on one of the corals they sent me after I found them. Later I also found redbugs! Already treated for that problem. Needless to say, it doesn't matter at this point because it's my fault for not using a QT the first time around. Lesson learned.
May this serve as a warning to everyone else who purchases corals from ANYBODY...AEFW are everywhere. Even the big vendors have them. Even if a seller has amazing looking corals (which all of mine were when I bought them) that doesn't mean they are pest free. You must use a QT protocol to avoid getting infected!

Nice growth and beautiful color!

It sucks to hear about the AEFW. I see so many people saying there is no need to dip frags from WWC, knowing full well they are making a mistake by not doing it. I know of a different very popular vendor who has flatworms but so many people just trust they have clean frags because they are a big name. No matter the company people need to dip or even better QT.

A nice looking frag has become a truly beautiful coral! That Jelloshot is completely off the chart.
I am sorry that you must go through the pest treatments but I believe you will come out of it ok.
Please post more progression pics of this coral in the future. Thank you in advance.

Sorry to hear about the worms. How did you first notice the flat worms? That jello shot is amazing, exceptional growth! How's the CRT Limit Breaker piece doing? I've not heard or seen that one that I can remember and it's a nice looking frag for sure!

I noticed the stereotypical bite marks on a frag awhile ago. Couldnt believe it and it took me awhile to finally start pulling frags, guess it was denial, lol.
I found quite a few on frags that had no signs other than slowed growth though. I was quite surprised when I was dipping to find worms on frags that still had excellent color and polyp extension.
I lost the CRT limit breaker unfortunately

That seems crazy. I wonder how many others think they are fine and have an infestation.

dang dude that growth is insane, especially because your tank is under a year old isn't it? Is your rock from a previous tank?

Btw, are you still dosing nitrate and phosphate and if so what ppm per day of each are you currently dosing?

Sorry bout the aefw but at least you caught em early. Give a melafix dip a try it's clear so you can see the worms fall off and you dont have to rinse 3+ times like bayer. I've used it to clear frags in qt before. I forget my dose but I can look it up for you if you want/cant find it.

Exactly. The signs I was seeing were very subtle. If I hadnt dealt with these in the past I certainly wouldnt have known there was a problem.
The good news is that after dipping everything over the last two days, everything is looking good already on the frag racks. The only coral that seems ticked off is my Foxflame. I think I left it sit in the dip for too long because it lost most of it’s color. Polyps are still fully out but it’s quite pale.
I’m using Polyp Lab’s Reef Primer. It works really well. The worms fall off quickly. It seems to kill them not just stun. Well tolerated by the corals if you follow the directions. And it’s clear so you can easily see them falling off.
I’m so glad to be done with the first dip!
Now it’s just time and patience.
Tomorrow I’m going to go over all my rock and make sure there is no coral tissue left and probably rearrange the aquascape a little. At least this is a good opportunity to fix a few things with my rockwork that I wasnt crazy about from the start.
