My Acro is turning brown):

You are very correct. The instructions for this unit states to use both lines, yet that doesn't work. I plugged the waste line so that water must be also forced through the DI. Sorry for the confusion. Rookie mistake:(

So is everything ok now? Reading 0 nitrate?

There should be water coming out of the waste water line, you shouldn’t plug that. That’s how Reverse Osmosis works. Only some of the water passes through the membrane. The waste water should go down the drain or used to water your plants. Only the product water (post membrane) should pass through the DI bed

I‘m gonna try chiming in again. Hopefully it goes better than the first time I asked questions to try assess the situation. Not sure if you were taught this or researched it somewhere, but why are you doing nitrate testing on your source water and RODI product water? The more important measurement to make sure you get optimal performance from your RODI is a TDS reading. Total Dissolved Solids is how you determine how free your water is from contaminants. Most likely, your RO Buddies did not come with them. It’s a good idea to get at least a handheld TDS-3 meter, which is temperature compensated, for a more accurate reading.

You want to take 3 readings.

1) From the Tap
2) After the RO membrane but before the DI resin
3) After the DI resin

After the DI resin should read 0 TDS. The tap water reading and post RO reading will tell us how efficiently your RO membrane is operating and will help determine how we can maximize the efficiency of your RODI system based on your source water.

Once you are mixing saltwater with 0 TDS RODI water, we can eliminate that variable and move onto the next. Based on this thread, the elimination of this one variable is just the tip of the iceberg. There seems to be much left to learn and do IMO.

How is the Acro going?

I don't know. I feel like somebody has got to be pulling our collective leg.

Ok thank you very much.

Hey guys, i have a frag of green acropora that was pretty, until it turned brown. Is this a normal thing to happen with acropora?

If you don't have corraline, which indicates that your tank is stable enough for SPS, don't buy SPS. Patience

I think that is jumping the gun a bit. It could be due to the coral being a new addition or in a spot it doesn't like.
Or it could be high phosphates. Sheesh don’t scare people jumping straight to coral death lol

*edit*
After reading further post, I guess you were right lol. But really there was no way to determine that right off the bat before learning his water parameters and tap water habit. Cuz you know, browning on It’s own could just mean too much phosphate :D

Heres my levels
ammonia0
nitrite0
nitrate20ppm(bad ik, but my tap is full of nitrates and i cant do anything about it.)

calcium450ppm
mag 1350ppm
ph 8.4
phosphate.25 ppm.
alk 14dkh(havent checked in a while might be lower)
Alk and phosphate are too high

Get an RO Buddy with a screw on sink adapter. Check it out on amazon. It’s how I started out with my nano originally, was $60 and worked awesome. Easy way to go

20 ppm is perfectly fine for acros i run my tank right there 24/7 i dose nitrate and phosphate the corals i would be concerned about the tap water itself silicates and alot of other bad ****, only use RODI water!
