I just got my filefish yesterday and so far it hasn’t moved an inch from the glass. It moves very slowly and stays very close to the glass. Does anyone know if this is normal?
Thanks in advance.

How are your parameters? How did you acclimate?

If params are good and you acclimated the fish in a normal way, my guess is it is getting used to the tank.

Try to spot feed it and give it some time.

My Parmas are good and I just temp acclimated like I have done with all my tanks. I just put it in to deal with a bad Aiptasia problem.

I would guess it just needs more time to acclimate; they are not particularly active swimmers as you know.

I've had one for over a year and he mainly hangs out by the glass unless he's actively feeding on something.

Just keep an eye out on it and see what it does throughout the day. It is going to need time to adjust to the tank and new surroundings. As stated they are not fast swimmers. They more or less float, hover, bob, and weave through rocks and crevices looking for the right size Aptasia or making a second pass at the larger ones. It isn't really a single setting that they eat so they are always moving. But their movement is slow unless they are being chased or there is a threat.

I have one in a 210 and it is rather interesting to watch. It is always around the rocks, hovering, doing its thing and then all of a sudden one of the Sea Swirls direction hit him or her and it floats over to the next rock structure all the while adjusting control to swoosh over corals, rocks, and whatever else. Pretty interesting fish but they have a way they move.
