Wow! Your keeping a moorish idol and a pair of Mandarins alive, impressive. Are they eating well? Pods? Frozen? Awesome system my friend, love the shallow rimless look. I would love to see what you have available as compared to over here in terms of corals. Are they reasonably priced over there? Sorry for all questions, curious u know!

Hi Edzo. My MI only eats nori and Cos lettuce, and refuses any dry or frozen foods. Definetly a herbivore this one lol. The mandarins eat all foods, and the key in my opinion is to limit the competition for their favorite foods, pods. Hence why I have no wrasses.
In Australia we have a very small aquaculture market, with only 1 large supplier of mass produced frags available, and they cant keep up supply. Us reefers do trade our tank grown frags, and sell small amounts on the forums, but aside from that, most of our SPS is maricultured.
I love the American aquaculture market, aand some of the frags available in the Americas blow my mind! I would love to have access to them!
In saying that our SPS is cheaper in price than over there, with a large maricultured SPS colony retailing for around $80 AUD.
Oh the other thing we dont have is Photosynthesetic Gorgonians!
i would love some for my softy/LPS tank. Also we have no aquacultured clams here, and it is very hard to get any good colored clam, and if you can they are $400 plus shipping. And florida ricordeas, we have none here even yuma ricsw are very wexpensive here, i recently saw a rainbow sell for $900 on a facebook auction here!

I appreciate the info, would never think that your selection would be so limited? Guessing it has to do with conservation but it just seems odd to have access to page after page of Australian coral here when your not even seeing it available. I will be following along here, love what you have done even more knowing your options are limited.

Hi Edzo, Ahh selection is far from limited, but Maricultured acropora as you know, are a bit hit and miss sometimes. They have a tendancy to change color once acclimated to captivity, usually to a color quite different from their aquacultured cousins!
I did forget to mention though we do have really good chalices here, that are cheap i am shocked when i see the asking price of some of the American chalices over there!

You are not alone with being "shocked" with chalice pricing but that's not likely to change any time soon. This hobby can be as expensive as you want it to be but I can't imagine not have a couple of tanks. If I could find a way to write corals and equipment off on my taxes it would make me feel a lot better. If you get a chance maybe you could throw some chalice photos up in the future? Curious to see, thanks you.

Edzo I started keeping an eye out for nice chalice frags going around lately.. Ive picked up 2 lately, which i traded off friends, but apparently my moorish idol likes the taste of them(?!) lol. ahhh well i need to make a topdown shot box anyway to get any decent pics of them. Hopefully in the next week or 2. Either way the most ive ever seen a chalice for sale here in Aus was like maybe $70 for a 10 inch piece? lol every color under the sun, people just arent into them here hey, but hopefully i can start a trend lol.

Thanks mate. My SPS comes from all over of the place. Reeflections in Moorabin is a great place to start your search! :thumbsup: but like everyone will tell you, the best pieces always used to be some brown hunk of junk that has colored up and flourished over time!

Hi guys, a fair bit has been going on with the tank lately, first off, a case of the dinos since the lighting upgrade, I turned off carbon and dosed a 3ml hydrogen peroxide solution @ 1ml per 10gal morning and night for a week until my new 200mg/h ozonizer arrived. I think(hope) I have it under control. Anyway, ive been experimenting with some pics lately, as im trying to capture the true colors of corals instead of following the trend of having blue pics lately, so im adding a little flash to some of these, with the flash quite under exposed, so the effect is quite minimal.... anyway, on with the show!
