My baby tuxedo urchin

I added a baby urchin earlier this week, initially he went from the rocks to the front of the glass and slowly made his way to the very top corner, I gave him some seaweed the first day he arrived and another tiny piece yesterday, he’s not moved from the one spot in a couple days, should I be worried or is it normal for them to hang out in one spot when they’re not hungry (he ate a lot of seaweed this week)

Completely normal.

One of mine has currently been on my feeding ring for the last 3 days. My fish are not happy about it either. lol

I also got a baby tuxedo urchin last weekend. I’ve observed him pretty closely, and he does sit “idle” for considerable amounts of time. However, when he gets to work, holy smokes does that little dude clean.

He might just be full for now. I saw my new guy sit in the same spot for almost 24 hours a few times in the last week.

FYI, say goodbye to your coralline. Not that that is a bad thing per se, but they absolutely LOVE coralline!

I have 2 blue tuxedo's, and a pink short spine pin cushion. I used to grow coralline so thick it plated out like a montipora before my urchins, my tank is now devoid of it.

Would love to have an urchin in the tank. Unfortunately my file fish would make a meal of them.

As a first time urchin owner, I’ve just discovered that you can get little hats made for your urchins. That is hilarious! I might just have to get one

Any suggestions or advice as far as how often to supplement the urchins diet with seaweed just to be sure he’s getting enough to eat ? Can you over feed them or do they stop eating when full?

If you have enough algae, then they need no supplement. If your tank is barren of algae, then just get it to another home... it will be better off being to eat when it wants and stuff.

The urchins can stall out and go slower if your tank has too high of N and P, so keep these from getting too high. They don't have to be near NSW levels, but they should not be too high either.

They will stop eating when full and likely make whatever algae you fed them as a hat if they are no longer hungry lol. It is also normal for them to stay in one spot for a while without moving especially if you fed them there

I know there are other opinions out there, but I always try to wait until the ammonia and nitrite have come down to 0 before adding livestock.

This is the most far out thing I've seen on here by far. I just cant believe this is real not photo shopped and people legit do it.
