My Banggai Pair 4/28/2012

Where did you get that pair? Did they guarantee it was a m/f? Are they captive or wild? I am looking to pick up a captive m/f pair, but don't know where to look. Thanks!

Got them from Ocala Aquariums- (lol..in Ocala, FL) :)
Bill has stated that since they are tolerating each other so well, that it should be fine as m/f - but as they are so young it is abit sketchy to tell.-
I have gotten a previous pair from him and was very pleased- I am pretty confident they are male/female- just by the way they explore abit-then always find their way to each other in their corner, to cuddle :)
... they are doing well so far- :)
I am not sure- I think wild (?) but I will get back to you on that.
I fell in love with the last pair I had- if you get a pair, def post a pic- I would love to see them :)

Nice pair! Love the names! LOL!

Sent a message to find out if captive or wild caught- will let you know :)

Hey Tabasco1... This pair is wild caught :)

Here is an update- Day 3. After this will do weekly updates to the journal. But so far so good, they seem to be exploring oppostite sides of the tank, then finding their way back to each other, so still fingers crossed hoping it is a pair like I feel they are, ...lol but I am not a Banggai fish whisperer, hahaha so only they know if they are boy/girl...

Hmmm.. they are staying a bit more on different sides of the tanks lately.....:squigglemouth:

Love these fish!!! I am going tomorrow to the LFS. They have a tank full of little ones.

Question #1- any ideas on the anemone
Question #2 - any thoughts on the fact that there is NO aggression, nipping or chasing, but yet the banggai's are not staying close to each other....

Well. Turned out the pair I had was possibly two males, or two females. Will try to get a great shot and post a photo of the mouth/jawline area itself- but, sad to say the bigger of the two killed the smaller one. So I will be looking for a mate for the one I have, just need to be sure I am not picking the same-sex. The one that is remaining in the tank now- very active, very healthy, eats like a pig :)
This thread to be continued when I come across a mate for him/her. :)

What I had was two females- which is hard to tell since they were so small - so today while at our club meeting I picked up the male Bill was holding for me, introduced him to the tank when I got home, lights off, and fed the tank- so far, seems good :) Ok now Mr Banggai - Please make nice with Mrs Banggai :) heehee I want babies dang it!

Yay for getting a pair congrats!! I have one in my tank now and love him.. very active swimming around and all... Keep us updated with the breeding, I would like to eventually like to try my hand at breeding some saltwater fish... My cichlids breed like crazy!

Sorry that the original two did not turn out to be a pair, but congrats on being able to get a male for your female. Hopefully everything works out and you will be posting pictures of babies in the future.

Thanks :) very happy with this pair :)

Cichlids are cool - I have always liked them - we had some blue and yellow (don't know the names of them) mixed in with a HUGE *** jack dempsey (he was named Jack of course, haha) years ago- loved them:)

Yes- I am going to try to post updates as they occur, so far I am posting on several forums- but since this is where my club is now, lol, R2R gets priority, lol :)

So far they are doing well. I have not touched their tank at all- the biocube is still in the fishroom, so anything we do that has to do with adding to the stand, I cover their tank- I am afraid if I tried moving them into a temp tank - it would backfire- something has happened each time with the banggais- and this pair I am HOPING will be THE pair :) so I am not jinxing it lol!

The male is exceptionally darker- like the female is a nice silver body and the male is BLACK - very easy to tell them apart, aside from the fact she is HUGE. When they feed he gets even darker- but she stays the same. You can almost see through her- that's how light she is. Which I am watching her closely to see if I can see any egg activity in there :)

Great to hear that they are doing well and hopefully they continue to do so. Look foward to hearing more updates as you have them :)

Boris and Natasha are awesome!! Thanks for sharing!

I know this sounds barberic but what I did was purchase 5 of them and let them pair off on there own. Unfortunately there were casualties this way but I was actually able to get two pairs out of the five
