I am about 2 months into my 28g jbj pro led and wanted to share how I dealt with my bryopsis problem. I used kent tech-m to weaken it and then 3 turbo snails took care of the rest. There isn't really much to say about it so here are some pictures. Also, LMK what you think of my aquascape and I have extra kent tech-m if anyone needs it.

I like the rockscape in the last pic. Looks like your ready for some corals and fish!

Congrats. Lmk how much for the tech m and how much is left. I don't have a problem now but with a new tank one could develop.

Yes! I plan on getting a jawfish this weekend. Im saving up for the MTRC frag swap to grab some corals. Thanks! The aquascape took me a while to get the way I liked but I am deffinatly happy with it.

Well since my tank is naked a small frag sounds pretty good to me lol. It still has a little over half in it and its a 64oz bottle.

I could be wrong, but the algae in those pics look more like green hair algae than bryopsis. Bryopsis has a feather like appearance and snails usually won't touch it.

Either way, glad you were able to kick it.

Oh I see, it shouldn't take to much. I was pretty generous because I didn't have any livestock in my tank.

That's what I thought it was at first. You can't really tell in the pics but it isn't just one strand, it had a base and the strands that came out branched off its just very hard to see. I thought hair algae was just one short strand but i am new to nuisance algae so you probably know more than I do

There are many many different genus' of algae. I think what you are thinking of people call turf algae. Some types of hair algae does branch like you explain.

This is the best picture I could find of what it looked like up close.

It didn't branch as much as that pic shows but I guess the possibilties are endless when it comes down to it. It was really slimey and it would even slip from my fingers when I would try to pull it out.

Yeah, that's not bryopsis then. Bryopsis isn't slimy. It's actually really tough and has almost a plasticky feel to it. That's the best way I can describe it. As for what exactly you had, well, like you said, the possibilities are endless. The important thing is that its gone.

And there is a possibility that there was a bryopsis species in there amongst some of the other stuff. That close up looked close to some bryopsis I have seen. Who knows. I'm no marine botanist either.

Weird, I know that the kent tech-m had an affect on it because after a day or two it was nearly gone. I saved a small frag of GSP and it survived. As long as its gone I'm ok though!

You said snails helped, they can sometimes plow threw some types of hair algae within days. Was this a new system, because I think I have seen similar outbreaks as an initial algae bloom. Snails have done the trick in those cases too. Not to mention as your system stabilizes, the algae tends to starve.

And I have heard from others that the Tech M will work on other types of hair algae. I don't know, I've never tried it for that purpose.
