I am SO Proud! A couple years ago, I converted my 55 gallon tank from fresh water to saltwater. I made every mistake in the book. Long story short, after only 2 months in, I had an over-stocked tank crash from ich, killing all 12 fish. Went 6 weeks Fallow, and decided to listen to the experts like you can find here on R2R. First two fish I bought were a young pair of snowflake clowns. I put them in my QT for a few weeks and made sure they were both healthy before adding them to my DT. I've had them now for 1-1/2 years, and watched them grow, and watched one claim its dominance to be the female. That was cool to watch. I've been hoping for the day I'd walk up to the tank and see eggs, and finally, it happened today! She layed them on the heater. Like I said, I am SO Proud!

Congrats, thats super cool! Are you hoping to start raising the fry?

Very cool I am waiting for that day as well.

No, at least not right now. I would need to setup a separate tank, and feeding them would be a little more work. Then, if I was successful, what do I do with all those fish? I'd really have to plan for that commitment.

That makes sense. I know people will sell their new load of fish but it is definitely a committment

I've had them for roughly 6 months, there are about 1.5yrs old.

Shouldn't be much longer. I'm guessing a couple more months. Has one become the dominant female? And do they spend most of their time together, especially at night sleep swimming together?

Nice! Congrats.
Just a warning, once they lay eggs, they can be a bit more territorial and could bite your hand if you get too close.

My maroon is already like that. And she's just one

What's a bonded pair and mated pair

Bonded is when they pretty much hang out together both day and night. They can't keep their fins off of each other [emoji7] Mated is when they actually spawn.

Okay good looking to buy a pair

I bought my two snowflake clowns as juveniles 1-1/2 years ago. Not exactly sure how old they were, but they were little guys.

As you can see, I quarantined them together for a few weeks, then they were the first two fish in my 55 gallon tank. I now have a mixed reef with a total of 8 fish and 14 corals. [emoji2]The biggest fish I have is my female clown and a Coral Beauty. Fun, fun, fun!!!

I've found that the secret to success is to gooooo sloooooow.....and be consistent with weekly water changes and filter cleanings. My clowns seem to appreciate it!

I read an article from a clown breeder that you should wait until the 6th spawn before trying to raise the fry. Before that very few fry survive.

Thanks for the info! [emoji846]
