P_20190419_220635.jpg I just noticed my BTA has shrunk a lot... Just a few hours ago it seemed just fine. I checked my water parameters, which turned out to be normal. All other organisms in my tank are doing great. What caused this shrunk? What should I do to make my anemone open up again?

How old is the tank?
What are the exact parameters?

Obviously a trigger to that effect.
What is tank salinity? What also is PH?
If within norms, what percentage are your lights (recommended 80% blue and 20-25% white and moderate water flow )

Also- Take a water sample to a trusted LFS and have them check against your results to assure accuracy.

My BTA's do this on occasion and always seem to bounce back to normal after a few hours.

My Nems do this daily. It is normal. It is how they excrete waste.

Think of it this way: You have a dish rag in a pot of soapy water. When you lift it from the pot, it is saturated. Then you might wring it out to get the water out. After a wipe down, you place it back in the pot and start the process again. This process is how you rid the rag of dirty water and replenish it with clean water.

It's the same with the Nem. They are excreting dirty, waste filled water and then taking clean water back in.

It will do this about everyday. You only have to worry if it stays that way and/or starts moving or lets go from the rock.

Also - not sure how old your tank is, but based on your live rock it looks pretty new. If you are trying to add a BTA in the first 6 months - it’s pretty early.

I have had hundreds of BTAs and while they do this occasionally, they definitely do not do it every day.

My guess is your tank is too new for the anemone. They generally do not live in a tank less than 6 months old, especially one with new dry rock.

Asking for help and then saying all parameters are normal is useless. Please give details on your tank ( size age, lighting, filtration are a mini minimum) and exact parameters .

The point is that this is normal behavior. It's when they don't re-inflate then it becomes a problem.

Thank you guys very much! My anemone went back to normal a few hours later. It's such a relief to see it go back to normal!
