i know i shouldnt have made this purchase. but, i went in to my local petco to buy a sponge filter and some seachem product. turns out i had reward points and they had a sale on a coral banded shrimp. with the sale and my points i paid $7 for him. i know everyone says dont buy fish and inverts from petco but i couldnt pass up deal. i asked what their parameters were and almost spot on to my tank except for temp was 2 degrees higher than mine. acclimated shrimp with slow drip for 30 mins and introduced to my tank. i have a 30g reef. 2 months old been cycled for about 3 weeks. damsel and a goby been in since cycle and thriving. introduced shrimp. went to bed woke up light feed to shrimp via flake and looked fine. im emt so off to work i went for 24hr shift. came back the next morning and found my cbs dead on my sandbed. i was soo sad i lost him

i was looking forward to him in my tank. check my parameters and everything was still stable and in range. he didnt molt. idk why he passed and wondering if it was cause it was a "petco" purchase or some other reason. any ideas? pls give me help and feedback. btw im new to tanking and dont want this to affect anything else i put in tank. and my fish are still doing great

I have purchased from petco on a number of occasions and not had a higher rate of death than any other sources. My most recent purchase was three female lyretail anthias and all of them are doing fine. Shrimp are kind of funny when it comes to acclimating in my experience. When I first start reefing, I followed the 30 minute rule for inverts and always had a high death rate. So I started doing 1 hour but that didn't help much. Now I just get the temps close by floating the container for about 15 minutes then put them straight in the tank. Believe it or not I have rarely lost a invert since I started doing this. I have two cleaner shrimp and 100 strong cuc from reefs2go that I did this way a couple months ago and they are all still alive and kicking.

Edit:
cleaner shrimp came from petco

Edit: sorry I read that wrong. No drip, straight in. They are already stressed from the trip and depending on how long the trip is the water quality is probably horrendous.

what kind of goby do you have? I have heard folks on here say that they have had some gobies not take to shrimp even pistol shrimp who they are suppose to play house with.

hes a smaller diamond watchman goby. he doesnt come out much he tunnels under my lr and pokes out and eats every so often.

I had one that molted and I swear I thought it was him.
