My Chaetomorha dieing

always happens with chaeto in my current system. I've always found some systems grow it extremely well and others don't regardless of lighting. I gave up and just farm hair algae in the fuge now. Still a great nutrient export, just a little harder to harvest and ugly as sin.

That kessil light is very mild so it’s definitely not that, also you have it far enough off the water it shouldn’t be causing any bleaching of your cheato, i am guessing the gfo is the cause of your problem, its taking out to much nutrients that the cheato needs to grow, take it off line until your tank matures and cheato takes off

That’s what I did for a while also. Still up taking nutrients so who cares. I tried Chaeto again and this time I added a small power head and tumble it, so far it’s doing great, been about three months and have had to trim it a few times.

GFO can out strip macro especially in a new tank, I did the same thing. Only reason I noticed it was that running GFO and that was the only thing I had changed and my macro started going white and shrinking. So three days later I pulled it and it slowly started to recover. Once a lot goes white reduce the time fudge lights are on or the intensity to let it recover and then work it back up. I run Kessil’s on my fudge the h80’s for the plants.
