I had to travel for work last month.

New to clams. But I think my Clam is happy as a CLAM and grew while I was away!

Well that's what I am guessing with the white area on the clam. If I am wrong please let me know!

Those derasa’s are beasts. Make sure you reserved some space!
Nice, I hope it grows! But not to large and lives a long happy life. It has about 6X6 inch area for it to grow. Do you think that's enough space?

My derasas hinge ruptured. It’s sad watching him slowly pass
I am sorry to hear that. How did it happen and how can that be avoided?

T. derasa will grow an 1” to 2” a year under optimal conditions. A 6x6 area will only last you a couple years at best. If a clam isn’t putting on new shell growth, then it’s dying. T. derasa is the second largest species, so a fully grown clam can reach 24” or more, but that’s gonna take a while. So eventually you’ll need a much larger tank or a new home for the clam. You may want to spend $36 on James Fatherree’s book I mentioned before.

The book is on order. Thank you.

I have another question...

The Clam, has moved in a circle. And it seems it likes to move about 1/6 of a circle about every other day. Normal or do I have just a clam that likes to be "active" Still looks happy as a clam, reactive to movement and light changes.

Great looking clam!!!

Leave it be. As long as it is getting adequate light and stable parameters it should be fine.

They'll change based on light, flow, etc...all normal. I watched my noae move 90 degrees after I changed the flow in my tank.

Looks good! If you're new to clams, then I would suggest picking up James Fatherree's new book on clams. I think it's $36 on Amazon.
There is a newer version than the one from 2006? Could you link it? I keep landing on the original one

Mine moved around a lot when I first put it in the it finally settled. It is at an angle one end against a rock and the other on sand. Everyday I would see sand dug away and thought a fish was digging in the sand. The one day I saw the clam slam shut and blow sand away from its shell. It must do it on a regular basis as it has a pile growing behind it.

Nice clam, i also have a deresa clam. They move for the first month rotating for optimal flow. Once settled it will not move until you change the flow.
