My cleaning Crew is eating my corals?

I got these beautiful corals less than a week ago and today I discovered that something is eating it. Do hermit crabs eat corals? Stylo corals?

Should I get rid of them? Can I just toss them in the ocean ?

Are hermits the only clean up crew you have in the tank? Lots of things nip at coral, I have never caught hermits doing it but my peppermint shrimp had an apatite for stylos. As far as throwing them in the ocean...can't you just take them back to your LFS?

DO NOT TOSS THEM IN THE OCEAN THEY MAY BECOME INVASIVE!! Hermits do sometimes eat coral if hungry enough but its likely another cause. What species of hermit? Water params?

Yea those lousy $3 hermits eat corals, it seems like the more expensive a coral is the tastier it is to a hermit. I traded all of mine away.

I've never had a hermit go after coral. Usually just the things that are dead in the first place.

Thank you!!! Nothing from our tanks should ever end up back in a natural body of water fresh or salt. Not only is that completly irresponsible but illegal in most places.

Yep what others are saying it is absolutely illegal to put potential invasive and foreign species into our waters. Look at the problems with iguanas or lionfish in florida

Well if you do decide to get rid of them I have a piece of ocean in my living room that you can toss them into

This is the hermit. I saw the same wondering around the coral twice.

My cleaning crew are 3 turbo snails
4 hermit crabs
4 blue snails
1 horse shoe crab.

This is why I removed all my hermits. See my nice branching monti, all the hermits would climb up into it and break branches off. A hermit summit. Just snails for me.

With All the contaminated water in Miami Beach the Poor thing more likely die. If they over reproduce, it will be the first time in history that SOBe would be algae free. JK!

Now the overpopulation is roosters in midtown!

Wow! Your tank is gorgeous. I will get them out of the tank back to the store and get more snails.
