Hey guys, I am still new to the saltwater tank. my tank is 75gallons cycled, nitrate and nitrite is 0, PH is 0.20-0.10 and I have bunch of crabs and snails and one fish and also one coral so far. bunch of rocks some of them are live. I bought 2 clown fish yesterday and I put them in the tank, they seemed happy. today I notice they were trying to jump out and then sinked to the buttom and died. :( I don know what happened. everything is good, temperature is good. and salt is good too. anyone know what might be the problem. the other fish there I don't know what its called but it like eats sands and spit it out is totally fine, and the crabs and snails are fine . don't know why the clown fish died :(

What type of fish did you have before the clowns?
What types of crabs?

Sounds frustrating but fixable.

I don't know what exactly what type but I ordered it online its like cleaning crew large package and it came with bunch of crabs and snails . and the fish that I have diamond watchman goby

Did you check ammonia and salinity? What was the temp? How long did you acclimate the fish to the new tank? You mentioned a new tank setup how long did you cycle the tank before putting in livestock?

No ammonia salinity is good 1.024 temp is 76 and I used floating bag procedure for 15 mins before putting them in the water and the tank been cycled for about 3 weeks now. Again there are a lot of live stuff in there and they are all fine but the clown fish

Your first problem is 3 week cycle. Typically cycle should be about 2 months for starting a brand new tank from scratch.
Acclimating float 20 minutes then drip acclimate for about 1 hour. If your tank is only 3 week cycle please don't put anymore live fish in your tank. This hobby should not be rush, otherwise your going to kill your livestock and eventually you will lose interest in the hobby. I would ask a lot if question, Google and R2R has a library of information just do a search.

Sorry to hear. I saw in your intro thread you had a mix about 80% to 20% dry to live rock. If you added a large clean up crew, you should probably give the tank some time to adjust to the bioload change. If it were me I would leave the light off or use a short photoperiod for a while (month or so) and just let that dry rock mature. Not saying this was your issue with the Clowns, but something I would consider before adding more critters.

Acclimation was short, but not unreasonable for what I have seen and heard from others. That is about what most LFS do with fish in my experience (compared to hobbyists). +1 on float, then drip acclimation. May have been an issue, or you may just have gotten unlucky with those specimens. Either way, I would not rush to replace them. Watch the Goby for a while and continue to let the tank mature before adding.

I used Red Sea pro cycle it and the cycle complete in 3 weeks instead of 2 months...

I used Red Sea pro kit for cycling and it says t complete in 3 weeks.. why would I need to wait 2 months if the kit said that I can add fish safely

Most LFS yes quick acclimation, and last 2 days in your tank. That why any fish purchase from LFS should be QT.

That is totally understandable. My post said that is what I would do and I offered it as an example. I did not say you did anything wrong, but you were seeking opinions so I shared some thoughts. You were cycled probably and then added what you said was a large clean up crew. From my experience clean up crew packs are over sized, so I was considering perhaps your system needed more time to adapt its cycle to the large at once addition to the bioload. I do not know how fast your system adjusted so I considered it was not ready for additional stress of adding fish to the bioload. As you probably know, cycling a tank is not a one time event. Every time something is adding to the tank the cycle needs time to adapt.

LFS = local fish store
QT = quarantine tank

Re-reading if both fish died within 2 days they might just have an issue to begin with before even coming to your home. Might be worth asking the LFS what their salinity level is though. If it is low for them there may have been some shock, but clowns are pretty hardy in general so not sure about this.

I put two in my tank had one in my tank for a year the two new. One's fault like cazy had to put them in separate tanks all fine now but I did have a bicolor that made it a week some time it just happens sorry to here

Do you have live rock and sand. I used dr tims and was able to cycle within a week but his is going back a few years. Now I just use water from my DT for smaller tanks like qt

yes I have live rocks and sand, and I took a water sample to the store and tested it and they said everything is fine. so they replace the clown fish for me, as soon as I put them in the tank they start acting weird and dying and even the goby so I took them off right away and out them in a separate tank with new water and they are fine.. whats wrong with my water??? what might be in it that causing the fish to die like within mins. every test came normal...corals and crabs and snails fine, just fish dying..

Most fish stores keep their fish at lower salinities. Test the salinity in the bag before putting them in the tank. If it is very different you should put them in a tank with a matching salinity and then slowly bring the salinity up to your display tank... and watch and treat them for diseases.

but when I put them in the new salt water. I did the same salinity as in my tank, and the fish is totally fine. its only when I put them in the tank., they start dying...

I think I might have found the problem. the KH Coraline Gro. suppose to put only 3ML in the tank this morning. my girl put 15ML!!!!!! I think thats why it killed the fish after few hours and now it kill them with in few mins. how long should I wait for that to go thro filtration and stuff and goes away because my goby was totally fine until after she added the crap... never let ur girl do the work for u.... dang. do you guys think this might be the problem???

I would say any sudden change like that would be concerning. I have no experience with that product as far as how to proceed. You may want to start a new thread with that exact question.

I have had my KH as high as 15ppm and the fish where fine but I would buy a good test kit and do a water charge 20% then test it I also acclimated my fish in a 10 gal thank for a week
