my clown trigger

Such fantastic coloration, he is beautiful, the chompers are a little scary though.

This fish is and will be my all time favorite. I know generally clown trigger is not a reef fish. But, do they eat corals or just inverts. Anybody here tried this fish in a reef tank with just corals, I have no shrimps or clean up crew in my tank.

He is in my semi reef tank now. Doesn't touch any of my inverts or corals. I just have snails and hermits for inverts. Its a hit and miss with them. Everyone clown trigger will be different imo.

Not sure if I should take a chance, love the little babies that's frequently available in the LFS, but I have some high end Z's & P's in the tank now. Why are they not reef fish if clown triggers does not bother corals.

because they have been known to kill other fish along with inverts. I just lucked out with mine. I bought a tiny 2" clown trigger before that killed all my inverts but this clown trigger doesn't even look at them. Nonetheless, they are beautiful fish and I love mine :)

What a beautiful fish. If the fish does not touch the corals, I am fine with that, it will be great to have 3 to 4 clown triggers in my tank and no other fish.

That won't be possible. They will end up killing each other unless you have a massive tank lol. As babies they would be fine but as they grow, not so much.

I know I was dreaming for a while there. I see you have zoas and Xenias in your tank, he does not pick on them at all.

I know they sometimes pick on inverts and seen some triggers actually ate snail shells, but I have not heard triggers eating corals. Unless someone can chime in on past experience with clown triggers eating corals. Like you said, it depends on the fish, and you are one of those lucky one with a trigger that does not bother any livestock in your tank.

A few more pics I shot today. Colors on him are brighter. The lights I have over the tank are dim and in the process of getting new ones.

Just showing how thick he is now. Not the best and clearest of pictures that I have taken but you can make it out. I will try to get clearer pictures next time from this view.

I don't think they intentionally 'eat' corals...they will chew on sps to help grind their teeth down if they don't find another way to do it....
Mine like to file theirs on the LR...they never bothered any soft corals or corallimorphs but I'm not sure if I would trust them with expensive sps...
Also...yeah they LOVE shrimp, snails, and clams.....

I have a feeling if you feed them things like oysters and clams where they can use the teeth to open things it will help keep them filed....
