Your right it’s not nice, but it is very helpful sometimes things that are the truth hurt others feelings and that’s ok because they will know not to do it again it’s not right keeping a clown in such a small tank it’s cruel and not nice I’m just telling him the truth!!!

Thats a good attitude. What i have found out over my years is that one person's insult is another person way of talking. By reading into a statement, especially in the written word which lacks nuance, it is way too easy to be offended and triggered..especially if the comments from someone may come from a good place but the messaging itself is what is flawed.

as an educated adult I am assuming you could explain to the op the errors of his ways without name calling and acting like a 5 year old

I must have missed the memo about the name calling thing I read through all of these messages and no name calling. Just explaining what he did wrong no one is acting like a 5 year old except you. Were telling the man what he did wrong so he can fix it we’ve all had mistakes like this. and it sucks, I wish someone would have told me what I was doing wrong when I first started. I’m glad the guy asked before doing something else no one had named called anyone just stating fact if your as dedicated as I am to reefing you would do thee same!!

Welcome to R2R and the salty world. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed. maybe Watch some BRS videos then treat yourself to a bigger tank. Biggest you can afford over ten gallons. Then have clowns when it’s cycled. Hope it goes well for you.

2G with 2 clowns is going to have problems going down the road every week. this is a very tiny space for the bioload 2 clowns will put off even if you over fliter.

my advice you dont have fish in any tank smaller then 5G and at 5G you only put 1 fish such as a small goby like a green clown.

idk your price budget but try a waterbox cube 10 or 20. or a Waterbox Peninsula 15/25. they are okay priced and will allow you to have your 2 clowns.

a day before it died i introduced two new rocks in the aquarium, the other small and the other big, i took most of the space in my 2 gallon tank. i thought theyd enjoy the hiding paces the rocks gave them but the night after putting in the rocks i noticed they went closer to the bubbles, they then proceeded to swim through the bubbles and against it. i thought they were just playing but the day after that they never ate and never swam actively, they both stayed in two different areas of the tank and did nothing, no flashes or swimming up and down nor side to side, just literally swimming still, hours later my bigger clown died, leaving me with one clown in the tank. thinking it was the rocks that caused it, i removed them. but it may also be because the bigger clown jumped out of the tank and fell 2ft but if that were the reason it died then why weren’t they both eating? the small clown still isn't eating.

I'm Lisa. Glad you joined. Sorry for your loss. This hobby tests everyone's BBA - Bounce Back Ability. Hang it there.

If your heart is really set on clownfish (many people MUST have them) then agree with some earlier posts that perhaps you should upgrade to larger tank size. However, don't feel like your current tank is just a toss away - I have a 5g QT (quarantine tank) that has been repurposed to grow live Red Ogo macroalgae and a 2.5g original QT that was too small to quarantine anything plus had a curve so when viewing fish I could see tail then face... it was unsettling and lately its also been taken out of storage under my desk to culture live black worms for my Copper Banded Butterfly to eat (worms were dying in my worm keeper in fridge but thriving in tiny tank).

One thing that has surprised me about these tiny tanks is evaporation. I put a small bit of colored tape on tank to keep track of saltwater level so when water evaporates I add fresh RODI water because adding more saltwater would increase salinity. Small tanks have less room for error - but worms live in RODI water and Red Ogo is just macroalgae so I don't have to much work with these tiny tanks supporting my main tank.

Regarding your remaining fish not eating - suspect something happened to water parameters which has stressed fish - once stress is eliminated it should resume eating whatever it was eating before. Check your ammonia and salinity first and changing your saltwater can also be a good next step given how small a tank you've got the remaining clownfish in. Having just 2 gallon tank, how you make/get your saltwater be sure its reliable. I've heard the premixed saltwater in containers from big box petstores can have a lot of fluctuation in salinity, which can also be hard on fish as you'll need to acclimate them to different salinity levels. Only by testing will you know.
