My Collection

i just got some jokers where do you suggest i place them in a 75 gallon tank with 6 55 watt t-5? also i have some kryptonite zoas- spectacular when they open- but they only open up for 2 weeks- then after that they close and spread and close but then they open again. Weird zoas : /

Sorry for the late response, when i had jokers i had them on the bottom under 250MH then i moved them to mid level and they kept their color. You can always start on the bottom and move them up slowly to their liking. The kryptonites i have up high, yeah mine used to do that before but now they stay open. If they close for too long try an iodine dip.

Update with tank specs
Very nice stuff!

Thank you!

man what the heck where do you get all of these?! they are amazing

Thanks! I guess you can say anywhere and everywhere :)

I also am using a digital rebel xti, but my pics tend to look much more washed out than yours. What settings do you use to achieve such a high level of contrast and color saturation?

Thank you everyone!

Travis- I use AV mode most of the time and theres that dial on the back i adjust that depending on where in my tank i am shooting. The hardest part is to just keep the camera steady, i actually practice breathing correctly when taking pics so i dont move too much. Its like sniping lol!

I'm shopping at your house from now on. Really. I'm in winchester so you aren't that far away. I might have to slide on down which won't be hard with all the drool now on my keyboard. That has got to be the sweetest collection I have seen ever! You are the kind of guy that makes this hobby awesome. Plus 1 for being local!

Have you had a problem with your Grandis being that high up in the tank under that much light? I have some people say they need less light. Also when you got the where they already green? If not how long till they got their color? I fragged off my adults and kept the babies. The babies have not changed colors yet but I have them on the sand under 150W MH. Thinking about moving them up.

Thank you! really appreciate the kind words :)

Stop on by anytime, winchester isnt too bad as long as theres no traffic. Its always an adventure driving to far places for corals :D

When i got my grandis it was already green but just not as colored up as it is now and the patterns werent as nice. I started mine low and gradually move them up, they are about 3-4" under the water right now. So mine is acclimated to high light and if i put them lower and bring it up there within a day or 2 the brown will start taking over the green. I had to make sure the move up was very slow, it seems like they are very light sensitive. I also feed mine to get better color and growth. Try feeding yours if you havent as well. You can try to move them up, but these things takes patience it took mine a while to color up. Also i believe not all green grandis are the same, some morphs have different shades/patterns of green.

Its been a while since i updated this so here are some pics :)

Absolutely STUNNING. I was just browsing your FS thread and followed the link to "your collection". I think I sprouted a little wood during the preview. Truely an inspiring collections of Zoas/Palys!

So did I hear you whisper, that local Virginias get the "insiders discount". We'll just keep that on the "down low" and not share it with the rest of R2R. It will be our little secret. Hey just joking there.

I have a new tank just coming out of it's LR cycle that will need "fillin'" soon, so I'll keep an eye peeled for your FS threads as it will save us both the shipping hassles and no doubt you have much of what I'm looking for. Take care and Keep thos pics coming. Pure "eye candy".

Now onto a sidebar/tangent topic: Are you a member of a local "frag" club? If so, mind mentioning which. The closest one I found is in Richmond, and that's a bit of drive from here.

LOL thank you! :)

Not really a frag club but a local group i guess you can say... its called WAMAS

Just let me know when your tank is ready :)

All beautiful indeed. Quick question for ya. I see you have recently changed tank set-ups to a 45g cube & 50g breeder. You also mentioned that you're running a sump. Are both these tanks plumbed into the same sump? If so, did you have any issues getting that set up?

I have (or will have complete in another week) a very similar set-up. 25G cube flowing into a 24Lx15Wx9H frag tank to a DIY 20 Gal acrylic sump. Right now, I have everything crammed on frag racks in my RSM 130D. Anyway, thanks for all the eye candy and I hope to have half as nice of a collection one day and half the photography skills. Great job with everything!
