My Conch has been out of site for about 2 weeks! Last I saw of him actually halfway up the back glass in my 55 gal. Didnt even know the climed glass! He is not outside the tank on the floor. Normally when it burys I can see part of its shell although the sand is deep enough to totally cover him. He is about medium sized. Water is crystal clear and doesnt seem like he died so.... any thoughts? Is this normal?

Mine lives under the sand, the most i ever see of him is when he's Hoover-ing up food with his elephant trunk. Occasionally he'll pop out and propel himself around the tank.

Mine disappears for weeks on end, then I'll see him for a couple days, then he's gone again. I wouldn't worry. He is one of my favorite animals in the tank.
Thank you ! My fav too!!! I was really worried but didnt know just how long they would go under. I feel much better now! Thanks again.

It's more of a question of how long will they stay UP. I'm not home enough to see him all the time. I also have a bicolor blenny that thinks he's dog. When I come home between jobs he starts shaking and wagging his tail. These animals are awesome.

They are fun how they all have their own personalities!

Is that what the elephant looking trunk on my sand was?! Thanks for this info, last night my youngest son and I noticed this on the sand and I had no idea what it was while my son said "maybe it's the conch" and I told him probably not. I just added a conch a month ago and didn't know about their elephant trunk... now I gotta go apologize to my son & eat some humble pie. :p

i know how you feel! i have a rather large yelliw conch and i have no idea how he hides his whole self! But when he eats all you see are two (sometimes only one) eye stalk sticking out of the sand, and this LONG trunk searching around. You can always tell when they're out & about becuse they propel themselves with great force by a sharp hooked foot- hence they go loudly banging their shell, flying against the rocks, the glass, anything in their way.

Found him!!!!
