They say this fish is quite difficult to keep? I'm a beginner at that but I got him to eat frozen foods when I first purchased him/her he's probably one of the best fish I have in their with a huge personality.

Question:

How do you know if it is female or male?

Here's a pic :)

I think the general consensus is that they're difficult to keep although everyone I've spoken to about them has said they're easy. Same goes for moorish idols.
Awesome looking fish! Good luck with him!
I can't help you sexing them though sorry.

What are thoughts on the copper banded butterfly being reef safe? I had one once and he started picking at my corals.

Thanks heaps! I've had him for a month now and he's been awesome to have so at so good :) and for my clowns is it normal for them to host between two anemone? Lol it's cute otherwise. And very protective of them.

I have seen this before but he only picks at it because there's either food in the coral but he doesn't damage mine... Where as he loves to pick at the Live Rock cause of bristle worms and other micro things in them.

No worries :)
I wouldn't be worried about your clowns and nems. Are they both the same species of anemone?
Have fun with your new fishy.

Haha yeah seems pretty ok to me anyway :) but the nems are both BTA but different colours.

The thing that makes CBB's hard to keep is getting them to eat. Many die of starvation before the fish keeper figures out what they will and will not eat. Once you can get them to eat they are really quite hardy and mine is full of personality. He won't eat flakes or pellets but devours shaved scallops and mysis shrimp. Took out every feather duster in the tank, haven't seen an aptasia since about a week after he went in. Comes up to the glass to say hello whenever I walk into the room. Have never seen him attack any corals or nip at my clam. Here's mine:

Thanks, this is actually quite an old picture as you can see, from back in march. He has grown alot. I call mine Bart after Bart Simpson because when he spikes up his dorsal fins his profile looks just like the cartoon character.

Haha that's awesome! Yeah the spikes is so funny! And there snout haha I called mine Butterz lol! He comes up to the glass when I wanna sit there and watch and shows off cutest thing he did (but sad at the same time) I had two female clowns in the tank and one of them killed the other (over dominance) because I had bought a pair and didn't know this would happen :/ but my butterfly stuck up for the poor thing and stuck by it when it laid dead on the coral sand... It was unfortunate but should have read up on the clown.

I wish I had the nerve to get one. I just lost a spotband bf for unknown reasons and want to get another bf or two to go with my threadfin. I have a pearlscale one order. I would love a cb. such a beautiful fish but I hear too many stories of them doing well for a few months and then crapping out.

They are hard to keep in MOST cases. I have been thru 3 of them and the one I have now is a perfect example of one. the first two I got never took frozen and really didnt want to eat the available aptasia and pods. the one I have now chowed on them for 2 or 3 months decimating their populations and then one day, decided he wanted to eat PE mysis. since then, he is one o the first fish at the food bowl when I pour the mysis in eating no less than 2 dozen of them. still wont touch anything else but that, but remains to this day fat and sassy. I have had him since June 1st.
