my watermelon chalice Is starting to get brown mucus like substance and is starting to bleach on the perimeter of the coral. Does anyone know why?

Brown jelly? Google brown jelly disease. Its a coral problemo. Usually both your coral problems are from water chemistry. Check salt and alk.

12 hours of peak lighting? What lights are you using? What are the tank parameters?
I’m using a

Sanrise A029 Aqua Knight 30W CREE Nano Aquarium LED

It’s super cheap because I dint know if I really wanted to do saltwater but love it now.
for my parameters I have a specific gravity of 1.023.5 ammonia 0 ppm phosphate 0.25 ppm ph 8.1 oh 10.2dkh Calcium 425 ppm temperature 77.5 and the tank size is 15 gallons no protein skimmer. I have a hob filter and a lot of liverock

Not familiar with that light. Have you checked to see if it is enough for coral?

This may not be the issue you’re having however, when I was running a small tank similar in size it was running very warm about 82 - 86 degrees! I didn’t realize this was an issue at first because ome of my corals were fine as you are mentioning however over time it caused my hammer to start to bleach...

thankfully I was able to upgrade to a 75gal and do not have the temp issues anymore. Also I managed to save the hammer coral.

As I stated this may not be your issue but I thought it might be worth pointing out.

I would go 8 hrs of light and get salinity up to around 1.026 if you can, calcium is close and you want high magnesium if you can get that up. Try just bumping salinity up and add some magnesium because it can be sky high with no Ill effects, just dose it daily until you're up there around 1500 or so. Also try getting more flow to the coral so it can get rid of the mucus but not direct flow. That's just my $20

Thanks for the info I will use it.
