He's a good crab....most of the time...he's the only thing in my tank other then the maroon clown that doesn't fear my carpet anemone. He walks right up to it..inches in looks for scraps. When he finds some he sticks his claws to the anemone (not pinching though) and pulls back...the anemone releases him and he gets the food....he hasn't hurt anything else...other then the nurites...but that's expected...I don't care much for them...my main question is....what kind of crab is this?? My husband's worried he will consume future coral...but he hasn't really hurt anything...he buries himself in the sand...waits for brine shrimp to float by (during feeding) snatches em up...does the cutest little dance thing..I really don't wanna let him go...can some one give him some justice lol...I don't wanna banish him to the refugium

Thank you! He's really cool...and a great cleaner upper...cleans more then the hermits and goby .... I need an ID for hubby to let him stay haha but knowing me he has no jurisdiction when it comes to it but he insisted I posted on here...he's addicted to reef2reef but to scared to get participated so I talk for him lol hahhaa...

All crabs are opportunistic feeders and will eat something you don't want it to, those are some big punchers! I had a hitchhiker much smaller do a lot of damage to coral and eat a lot of snails

I hope he won't eat coral :( we don't like snails...so that's no issue for us. And we are currently fighting those weird little white ones that are everything!! He eats the adults when they come out so he's helping a lot. I just need an ID but can't find him anywhere...my little brother went to the beach and brought him back...said he found him washed up with the manowars...

Some kind of swimmer crab. I would put in your sump if you want to keep. Will eat anything it can catch. It's not hungry enough to eat snails...yet!

I will keep him and buy a small piece of coral...if he is interested and attempts eating it.. he will be banished!!! Lol thank you guys

I don't have anything he can destroy yet...I have convinced someone to set me up a separate saltwater tank just for him.. an old Qt
