I’ve had this guy for about 10 days. He’s eating fine and totally healthy. He’s just developed a really bizarre friendship with one of my MP40 powerheads.

Ignore the audio. My kids are in the background playing a video game, watching a TV show, then a train decides to go by (I live three buildings away from the tracks).

 
Move the power head further away from the glass and see if he keeps doing it. Hippos like to get into tight areas because it helps them feel safe. By making sure this is why he is doing it should give you piece of mind about parasites.
 
Generally a fish who is irritated with ick or velvet will do this. Any signs ?

That’s what I thought, but I don’t see anything on the side he’s scratching. I’ll keep my eye on him.

The rest of my fish are healthy as well - no visible signs of any sickness, all have healthy appetites, etc
