My Current QT Process

I prefer not to use TTM as it leaves several gaps in treatment coverage.

Filters are fine so long as they don't include any polyfiber/carbon/etc.

Thanks. Do you use a new filter for each quarantine tank? So after you treat with copper and they move to the next step. Is it a whole new setup and filter/heater/powerheads?

Where do you get your medications? I think you put together a list, but one of the links isn’t working.

Thanks again,

Nick

Last step is two rounds of Praziquantel using either GC or Prazipro. I prefer GC as it contains metronidazole as well and covers a few other diseases like Brook and uronema. This treatment is dosed into the water column to treat externally, as I have covered internal issues during copper with the food soaked meds.

How long in between dosing GC or prazipro?

Thanks

Nick

Does everyone automatically treat with copper or PraziPro? Or do you observe the first and determine if treatment is needed?
Thanks

My opinion is that depending if I feel comfortable if the source of the fish I will do an mostly observational QT for a minimum of 4 weeks. My one caveat is that I do always do a 14 day run in that four weeks of general cure laced food. I have no hesitation to start cooper or CP at the slightest hint.

Yes you need a totally new set up include heater, filter, air stone, power head, thermometer, ammonia badge, pvc tubes, etc

Usual recommendation is 5-7 days between GC/Prazi doses. You can plug in your temp and salinity to this site to get a more specific recommendation http://marineparasites.com/paratreatmentcal.html

I’ve never got nfg myself but here’s some I found through google http://store.everythingaquatic.net/drugs-chemicals-c-42_44/nitrofuracin-green-p-316

I treat everything prophylactically with GC, Copper, and Metronidazol. As the forum heavy-hitters have stated many times: observation simply is not good enough. You cannot see many individual parasites or diseases with the naked eye. Additionally, and more importantly, some fish simply don't present the disease they are carrying.

Can PraziPro and cupramine be dosed at the same?
Yes, they can, but it will deplete oxygen from the water very quickly. Make sure you have a good airstone running if you go this route.

Thank you. I have a large sponge filter which is creating a lot bubbles. I also run an AquaClear 110 HOB and a powerhead to create surface agitation. Is this enough?

Yup, that should be enough. Sponge filters are great at air exchange.

I have an aqua clear filter too, was wondering do you guys just run the sponge I assume and seed it with Dr. Tim’s? You shouldn’t run carbon whole dosing the copper and then after that the meds right?

Yes - seed sponge with bacteria, no carbon while dosing meds, you can use carbon after the medication treatment ends

I've already did 2, 5 minutes FW dips. Once when I got him (over a week ago) and once I saw this infection.

You can ... and I have done ... but it's not really ideal.

That many meds can be harsh on fish, and will almost certainly deplete the oxygen levels in the aquarium. Make sure you've got a powerhead or airstone riffling the surface of the tank.

I have a HOB, sponge filter and 2 power heads facing up
