My Current QT Process

I am nervous and overwhelmed with starting out this process as I don't wanna mix medications that my fish will just die. I have read just about every sticky on this thread so I think I am ready to try.

I will be trying to mix metroplex & focus to begin on my clowns and than do a water change after a week and administer general cure. Can I be using cupramine the entire time?

I don't really use cupramine much anymore. I use chelated copper and I feed medicated food during copper all the time without issue. I would not combine general cure with copper unless its an emergency (if you are talking about dosing the water, adding it to food with focus is fine during copper) I would wait until copper treatment is complete and the water is copper free, then move on to using GC or prazipro.

Praziquantel is very hard on the available oxygen in the aquarium so with the reduction of oxygen plus the immune system suppression from copper I would advise against it unless you have a fluke infestation that is becoming lethal. Even then you can use FW dips for relief until copper is complete. Prazi+Copper can also result in nasty bacterial blooms further reducing the available oxygen in the aquarium causing major issues.

Thank you for the information. In my mind if I do lose a fish my thought is, at least I am trying and learning how to prevent other fish from dying. I feel bad when fish die, but unless I learn the proper methods to save fish I will keep losing them.

You are welcome. There is certainly a learning curve with QT.

Metro+focus mixed into food is considered reef safe. I would use caution and keep a close eye on things. I would also run carbon during the use so if any medication dose leach from the food it's quickly removed.

Also if inverts consume the medicated food it can reportedly be problematic, I've never had any issues personally.

I'd recommend getting a carbon reactor from BRS and their recommended pump. Startup cost is $100. Important if you keep any leathers.

I don't keep leathers - if I plan on ever keeping them than maybe I'd look into one.

Howdy, My one clownfish has been off the past couple days out of no where. He/she is ~ 3 months old. The clownfish appears to be breathing really heavy the mouth keeps opening and closing at a rapid rate. It practically lays on the rock unless someone walks into the room. When it's time to feed...

I just manually top off. Copper does not evaporate so I just use FW. Top off every other day or so. I always test when fully topped off to make sure the level is where I want it.

Do a gallon a week. Just be sure to use 2 different cups, if you do WC out of the same barrel. Don't want tank water going to your DT from the QT.

Depends on bioload etc. I just keep an eye on the tanks and fish and change them when necessary. A few fish in a 20g may not need changed throughout the two weeks of copper.

When using certain meds like NFG daily WCs are required.

Hey do you think my clownfish could have a prazi/metro resistant case of intestinal worms? I've been giving GC soaked food for 3 weeks and he still has white stringy poop. No other signs of illness. Is there something else I can give him to treat intestinal worms?

I'm reading the first post and getting a little confused with this response. You say in the post that you put fish into 1.0 copper and feed medicated food mainly GC + focus but here you're saying not to use GC with Cooper? Can you confirm?

Also do you feed medicated food for the 14 days at 1.0 copper or simultaneously feed medicated and raise copper to 2.0?

Yes with focus none will get into the water column, it will bind it to the food. Which is why it's important to use focus.
