Planning out a custom and totally DIY build to replace the Bar in my business. Above is a pic of the measurements I'm thinking about. It will have a custom shape made of layered birch plywood and 3/4 starphire viewing panes.

should be in the neighborhood of 600 gallons. filtration will be on the other side of some drywall in a large closet that already has a janitor sink

I am looking forward to watching your build progress. I am also building 2 plywood tanks right now using 3/4 in birch plywood that has been doubled up on all of the corners and the bottom.

This will be very cool!

The aquarium depth will be 30 inches with a bartop above the actual aquarium access. This way, when things are placed on the bar top the vibrations aren't transferred to the tank itself. I also am kicking around an idea about incorporating LED lighting into the bracing of the aquarium as a way to keep the lighting hidden underneath a clear acrylic bar top.

I will have a sump system and RO DI hooked up to a saltwater mixing tank in a room next to the aquarium with the overflow piping running through the wall. I plan on a coast 2 coast wier system along with a separate closed loop system and pump (maybe 2) for water flow. the sump room diagram will come soon.

I'm also planning on utilizing a 72" lifereef protein skimmer to keep the gunk out of the system.

Lastly, I will be automating water changes with a 2gph drip system from the last part of the sump to a drain and another 2gph drip being pumped from my saltwater mixing tank.

Should be really nice once it's all done.

Have to follow along on this one. Where are you located so we can come and belly up to the bar...I mean tank...when you're finished?

I'm in nashville, Tn. I'm working on a sketchup 3d diagram of the whole idea right now. I also plan on listing out the materials and costs once I'm done so people can get an idea as to what it takes to do something like this.

I also checked my crawl space under where the tank is going. I love commercial buildings. The tank will sit atop a section where 2- 12" steel I-beams cross and also a bit on top of 2x12's coming off of the I beams. The I beams also have full cinder block support underneath them. I don't think I'll have to worry about floor reinforcement
