Came home to my pearly Jawfish sitting on top of my mesh lid, yea one of the ones with 1/4” netting. Have no idea how he got through but he was my favorite fish and now he’s gone. Just a warning to fellow reefers that these mesh lids aren’t %100 “jump-proof.”

Sorry for your loss. Has a similar incident happen with my yellow tail fang blenny. I couldn't find him in the tank for a while and then I catch the cats playing floor hockey with his dried remains. RIP "Fang"

i recently had a diamond goby slip past my net lid and hide in my sump for several days before i found her.

only way she could have got through was to get spooked and run up the side of the overflow and bounce into a 1/4 inch gap over the weir. crazy precision!

sorry for the loss!!!!

I tried 2 jawfish with the same result. The first one got through egg crate so I covered it with 1/4 inch netting. They aren't jumpers, they are escape artists. I watched mine jump to the netting, grab it, wiggle through it and then flop around on top. I put it back but he did it again at night.
Now I have an eel that wont fit through 1/4 inch netting.

Maybe I’ll just try to find a large adult that can’t physically fit through the gaps I have. Just a shame because they’re such an interesting fish. You never would think a fish could get through IMs lid due to how well made they are but you’d be surprised.

Sorry for loss...… jawfish and gobies are 100% jumpers and sneaky in getting out
