My Deep Blue 80 Rimless build from scratch

I got all excited sitting here staring at all boring 80 rimless gallons and out comes a little amphipod foraging around the tank I added a hundred of them last week and I know there's at less one of them still hanging out when I put the pump on feed and thousands of tiny pods start rising from the sand coral and rock they have been in there for two weeks and I feel they have multiplied too

I think I asked you before but where did you get the tank? When I was looking the biggest I ever saw was my 45

I know its been awhile but my reef is almost a year old so i decided to post a update. So far ive removed the crushed coral bed replaced it with figi pink sand (do to the ugly colors on the crushed coral) removed the radions too complicated to set up never found a happy spot with them. Added two new kessil a360we ran them for 6 months still wasnt happy lost a lot of corals After a little research i took the plung and ordered a new 250w Reef Brite hybrid mh/xho led combo and added it three days ago And let me tell you i had about 10 corals zoas/palys and some sps pieces that i didnt think was gonna make it and 30 min after powering the mh the all puffed up and had full polyp extension wow i feel i have unlocked the main problem that has cost me lots of money! Hell i have 4 bubble tip nems that havent had bubbles since i got them over 6 months ago im so excited!

Looking good

Watch that sps.. it's going to be a white skeleton , skin shouldn't be peeling off like that, other stuff looks good though , love the dimensions of this tank

I love my mh/t5 combo been thinking about reef brights to replace my t5, nice light!

I too purchased a 250w Reef Brite dimmable MH w/Reef Brite LEDs and have yet to set up the tank it will go on. Over the time I've been waiting I've contemplated selling the light and going with LED only. But you have convinced me to keep it and give it a go. I think it will be amazing.

I hope things continue to look up from here for you!

Thats my bigest fear i dont want to loose this colony thats why i made the switch to the mh i dont think the kessils was providing enough par I hope it pulls through im on the 4th day of aclimation to the mh and im seeing polyp extension now its been months since.

Hope your SPS pulls through, what have your parameters been like?

I love the big caves in your rock scape btw! What fish do you have now?

This is my last light change ive always been swayed away from mh by the led hype in my 4 years of reefing and i have lost so many corals.
I run this light for 4.5 hours and tank temp never changed stays right on 80 and thats what my heater is set to.
