Hi,

Since November I have a nice Derasa clam in my tank. I put it in a small hammock rock where it attached to the same day.

I have had good growth since, but today it decided to leave the hammock! It is no longer in it hammock, and when I put in back it jumps out of it!

So now it sits on the sand. Should I worry? Is this normal? And also, will it attach again or stay put just by weight? This, because I will upgrade tanks in about 2 months and I would not like it to stick to the bottom glass....

Experts please reassure me...I love my clam.

Deresas generally stop attaching once heavy enough to not get blown over. I would leave it off the cradle. Itll be fine.

It clearly no longer wants to be in the hammock. I wonder why all of a sudden...

Ok, a little update:)

The clam is doing fine since it detached itself from the hammock. Most of the time he is just quietly sunbathing, doing stuff that clams do...

But then my ferocious white tail bristle tooth comes along committed to get the last piece of algae of the Derasa shell and while at it, he knocks it over from time to time.

Somehow the clam uprights himself normally within 10 minutes, but it must not be nice being bullied around like that. It was so much more steady when it was still attached to its little rock.

Does this happen to you sometimes that a fish knocks over a clam? Will it hurt the clam? Anything I can do to prevent this ?

My deresa does not really get knocked over, but if i adjust my power head even a little bit, i notice it shift. From my experience, derasas are more mobile as they live on the sand bed, more space to move around. They make adjustments to things like flow and light. The most important thing is its health, in your case, i see a white ring near the mantle, showing that it has exhibited growth (one of the easiest ways to gauge a clams health). I would let it be, and only worry if the clam looks bad for some reason.

My tangs pick at my clam shell, and sometimes knock it about, it always opens up after they are done grazing.

Growth is nice I guess. Only the shape of the shell looks a bit off to me. One side is al lot more flat than the other. I expected it to grow more symmetrical.
