Wow! Great work. How's the tank you were building coming together?

Thanks kschweer.
The tank I had posted earlier was sold. I have decided to finish setting up a 310 acrylic. I will be starting a build thread in the very near future. This thread was a test to see how easy it would be to post pics. This skimmer will be used on the 310. I will post up more pics of this skimmer all finished up and sitting in its new and improved sump

The pics that have been posted above were of the Main body of the skimmer That I built over 2 years ago. I have since blown the dust off of it and modded it slightly to work in a newly designed sump. The following is the skimmer box/bubble plate.

Very professional work. Just curious. How does the cost of buying all of this acrylic stock compare to just buying a skimmer? Obviously you have to buy a pump too. I have no idea what all of the raw materials cost.

1/4'' acrylic tube is very spendy. A good friend gave me the 12'' tube. I had the 10'' tube from a trade . I also traded for the 6'' tube. If I were to guess there is near $400 just in tube. The pump was $300. All of the other acrylic was leftover from other projects. But I would guess $100. So that is $800. I have searched on line to something kinda similar, and nothing under $2000.
My hours ....aaprox 40 to build. What is that worth????????????????

Thanks for the reply. As long as it works well, knowing you built something awesome is worth a lot to me. Nice work.

I sure hope it works. LOL I bought the Elite Reef Oct 220 for this 310 build, but got to thinking I should finish this skimmer up and see if it will work. So if it does not work I have a very capable back up. Just have to pull this monster out and drop the R.O. in.

Awesome work, rather it works or not, but I have a feeling it will work really well. How many gallons does that pump push through the skimmer. Can you tell your overflow plumping pipe size that feed your sump area. Will all the water be skimmed as it comes into your sump? I'm kinda of new, so I am trying to ask and learn about the processes. thank you for your time

following along. I would like to see this thing in action.

The skimmer pump will push 860gph and intake 4000 l/h of air. My return pump will flow aprox 2600gph thru the sump. So no all the water will not be skimmed.

I will post up a video when it is in action.

Now THAT is cool, and quite impressive.

I am perhaps the least handy "man" on planet earth. I put man in quotes because my wife would want that, given the nature of this discussion.
