My Evolving JBJ NC 24

i put a mp10ec in my jbj 12 last night and man is that one of the best things i have done in that tank

Really please tell me how it is better. I have a koralia and i am looking to buy one for my 28g jbj nano. I do have some dead spots in my tank. And ive heard in some modes it can be able to givee cuurent to all the tank

thanks

Quick update: I am battling some algae issues which are arising as I take out my 3 year old sand bed. Looks like I am stirring up some nasty stuff but it is almost all out so hopefully the algae will die off over the next couple months. SPS are all growing well and most color is good, some just ok. I lost one of my favorites when I knocked my bright green milli off it's rock (this was very frustrating because it was finally encrusting after not doing anything for months). Also something seems to be bothering my red planet it is looking really bleached and I have noticed a lot of filament on the under side of the coral which made me think bugs. I gave it a bayer dip and we will see how it looks a month from now. Not much has changed other then a little sps and algae growth, some pics.

That sure is one beautiful nano. Do I understand right that you don't do water changes on that thing? If so I would love to know what you are doing cause it sure is working for you. I had a 29g biocube and had to do weekly water changes to keep nitrates at about 8.

Thank you, I didn't really do water changes for the first year. I was able to do this because I gutted the back chamber and added a octopus HOB skimmer that I believe is rated for 150 gallons. The skimmer and a bag of carbon are my only filtration. I remember for the first couple months the thing was so efficient that when I added any food the thing would instantly produce skimmate and skim everything out over the next 20 mins. seemed like i didn't have any algae over the first year but my sps growth was also sub par due to low nutrients and bugs. I treated for bugs and some of the excess bayer got into my system and killed all my pods and probably most the fauna in my sand bed. Since then I have been battling algae so I have been removing my sand bed sections at a time thus doing water changes every month. Algae sucks but I believe once I get all that sand bed out it will die off fingers crossed. If not may have to add some phosphate removing media as a last resort

Very cool tank:) I sure hope the one that I am about to set up gets to that level one day. Can you give me some info on your frag rack that's shown in the middle of page 2 of the thread and weren't the two koralias too much flow for the tank?

The frag rack is called a frag tree I forget who makes it, I think it holds 8 or 10 frags. I actually just took it out of my tank, its just too cramped in there to have frags so I just took all my frags and epoxied them to the same rock and whichever ones encrust fastest will survive. As for the koralias I actually cannot get enough flow even with two and an upgrade maxi jet 1200 return. Good flow gets harder and harder to achieve as the sps grow, it seems like every month I have a new dead spot in the tank. It is def time for a mp10, but it will probably take me losing sps due to lack of flow to get me to spend the $240!

Finally got my MP10!!! Tank is good been feeding a lot to try to get some more color in my sps and it is definitely working but it is also causing some algae issues. I also decreased my LED to 50% blue and 25% white which is helping out too. Here are a couple pics tank is looking gooood right now!

Glad to see things coming back around. I also added an MP-10 to my wife's 24g a couple weeks ago and find that it makes a huge difference in eliminating dead spots, although I do not have nearly the amount of inhabitants that you have-lol. I must also inform you I have been regularly "pimping out" your tank pics. When my wife says she doesn't really know if she likes something, particularly sticks, I just show her one of your pics and say you really don't like this? So far "we" are about 99.7% effective in changing her mind :-) Keep us updated nice to see things come together like this.

Thanks for the kind words and I am glad I can help you get some sticks in your tank. I am absolutely blown away by the difference the MP10 has made in my tank. I had two koralia and an upgraded return and it wasn't even close to enough for my tank. The MP10 gives my sps great polyp extension, I definitely think that flow has been a major factor with my struggle to keep color on my Red Planet and the couple random STN episodes I have faced with my larger colonies. Nutrient transport to the skimmer is way better thus less algae. I can't believe it took me 2 years to make this purchase, it is definitely a must have for nano SPS tanks!

Update: tank is looking great, the mp10 has helped color up some of my more stubborn sps. My grey bonsai is now purple with bright green polyps as it should be. A couple pics to help track growth.
