My experience with Berghia Nudibranchs

It's been about 12 days since I put 3 Berghia's in my tank, do hermit crabs eat them?

I was like you, had tried everything. Finally decided to try the berghias. I got mine from an LFS in Missouri. Same thing you thought, how in the world will these little things survive, let alone eat my monstrous aiptasia. I didn't notice until about the second month, that I was seeing nibbled on stalks, and then by month three, pretty much all gone. I made the mistake of moving my tank, and not putting all my rock in saltwater, and unfortunately, don't think I saved any, and now have aiptasia again, so I will have to order more. To those on the fence, don't hestitate.

for us, it was the biggest waste of $200 we ever spent.....
literally watched one of our aiptasia eat one of the nudis after being put in the tank......
:(

Don't put them on top of the aiptasia when you put them in the tank, they will get eaten. You need to put them in an area free of aiptasia on the rocks., then they will start laying eggs, multiply and start eating. They have to approach the aiptasia from underneath or they will get eaten.

I had an aiptasia outbreak and peppermint shrimp worked, but then went after my acans when all aiptasia were eaten. So I removed the shrimp and the aiptasia came back. I was tired of trying to zap them with the wand, so decided to try berghia. I waited until the aiptasia number exploded and added berghia. It's does take a couple of months before you see changes, but they are breeding, eating the aiptasia and sometimes see them during the day. They are on all the live rock. Since I have aiptasia in my weir, there should be a steady source of food for them. So far it's been worth it. Plus they are such cool creatures to see in your tank. Always liked nudibranchs.

I was extremely skeptical about buying nudibranchs also, because of the price and the warning saying peppermint shrimp and other invertebraes would/could eat them. I was not sure if all of my peppermint shrimp were gone. I also knew I definitely had to use some aiptasia-x to control some of the infestation or all of corals would have been overrun and killed in 2 to 4 months. No way I could wait that long....I saw 4 and 5 new aiptasias a day.

Low and behold after 2 months I noticed 50% of the aiptasia I saw was disappearing.....I was like...hmmmm. I actually had forgotten I spent a ton for these little things 2 months ago. The next couple of days my tank was literally clean of aiptasia and I saw 1 or 2 of them crawling around on some rocks looking for more. So they work....it just takes a long time!

Now I am afraid they will starve to death and hoping some aiptasia reproduce that I can't see so it is a constant source of food. If you can wait 2 to 3 months then go for it.

You can always try to rehome them. Or start a species tank. Or have locals drop off their invested rocks and put then in a small tank together. I know a few LFS near me that could use them.
