Copper banded butterfly. Had him for 4 days. The two at the Lfs are still alive, they came in the same order. No clue what happened. Parameters are ok I think. 79°.
Was eating well. I’ve heard they can die suddenly but there has to be a reason, right?

Assuming he got chewed up after death. I have a sally lightfoot crab, emerald crab, 2 young clowns, cleaner shrimp, conch, 3 snails and a spiny urchin. About 10 lps corals

I had a flame who was half eaten by the time I got to him. Had a royal gramma that I never saw, guess someone enjoyed a good meal.

Just surprised bc mine looked so much healthier than his brothers at the fish store. Was eating like a champ too.

I assume you didn't quarantine based upon the picture of it in the display tank.

I learned the hard way too: quarantining is a MUST in this hobby now. Disease is rampant and the only way to combat it is to quarantine. My guess is velvet (of the gills) considering how quickly he died. How are the other fish in your tank?

I'm sorry to see and read of this.

I notice in the first pic some white stringy poop like substance which is typically something we look at in an attempt to diagnose. Fecal matter can is a bit tricky to examine but it can often show the issue to be an internal parasite.

However, stress can cause white poop look as well. You just got it 4 days ago which really could be either parasite or stress from the new surroundings or a combo of both.

I'm truly sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

My experience is that fish loss with no visual symptoms between days 2 and 4 might be attributable to osmotic shock. Many fish are shipped in low salinity water. I've recieved fish as low as 1.014. Some fish may do fine going from 1.014 to 1.026 without a problem but some will not be able to make this adjustment. I'm not saying this IS the cause, only a possible cause. Especially if the fish looked healthy on day one or when it was viewed in a LFS.

Good point Brew12 ^^^Very strong possibility of this.

Whatever the reason. I'm truly sorry @Mycoolhamm.

Sorry for your loss. CB's are one of the tougher fish to keep. Most folks have problems with them eating, or they stress very easy. I've lost a couple in a matter of days of purchase. On another note IMO you might want to upgrade your test kits - API are very "ballpark"
