My First All DIY Tank Build

Yes and no. Since it is such a small tank and I like the aesthetic of a rimless front I decided to silicone it directly to the wood but, I did put pond shield over the edges so the bond is really between the pond shield and the glass, not straight wood to glass. I tested it for about three weeks and it held up perfectly!

NICE! congrats on the mad DIY skills

Alright so I have finally made enough water to get the tank circulating. I also went ahead and aquascaped the tank.

Next thing on my list to buy is live sand and maybe some power heads. Does anyone know of any power heads that have a magnet that can go an inch thick? If not I guess I could just glue them to the side too.

Also I will be making a show box/case for the electrical equipment.

On your plumbing you hard pipe some and used hose for other why do that? Also I heard 90’s are the greatest and most use 45’s are those the return lines ? I’m following your build looks good so far

Thanks for following.

I used a mixture of hard and soft for two reasons. One to stop vibration from the return pump and two because I ran out of hard plumbing lol.

I didn’t use 45s because two 45s create the same pressure as one 90 and 45s take up extra space...

Amazing build!

Looks really amazing I've been researching alot of dyi for the 150 tank I'm about to start working on plan on making my own overflow and sump tank but this build I made looks awsome !!

So new update the doors are on and I started cycling my rock!!! I figure after I get all the plumbing done, put the glass panel on and make sure everything is working properly my rock should be cycled. I also found a good price on some 1/2 inch thick glass for my front panel $170 brand new.

Here are some pics of my progress and kind of what I had in mind for my scape:

I decided to go ahead and make my sump a 29 gallon instead of a 20 so that I make sure there is no flooding from a power outage!!!

Alright guys I finished getting the refugium up and running and I added live sand to my tank. If you want to see more about this tank I am going to have tank set up and stocking in a different thread (Link Below). I will still update this thread with all of my tank upgrades or any additional diy upgrades I make to the tank.

Wow! I didn't know it was possible to have a plywood tank without a protective rim over the glass panel. Be careful haha.
Looks great!! :)

So far so good and I am looking at the silicone seals everyday lol

Just built a 10 gal ATO chamber for this set up. I was tired of refilling the 5gal ones every 4 days, 8 days sounds alittle better in my opinion.

Long overdue update:

I moved my tank downstairs in fear of it falling through the floor and it is back on track, I have stocked it and everyone is doing good.

As of right now I have two Clownfish, a Yellow Tang, a Tomini Tang, a Bullet Goby, and a Sea Anemone.

I also added a skimmer to this build and a gyre 4K.
