My First Blue/Green Chromis

I put two small Chromis is my new tank, for the first few hours, they both swam around the tank together happily. The next morning, gone! I started to panic and looked in the sump, on the floor everywhere but they could not be seen.

Lost of where they could be I pulled a bit of coral rock out of the tank and flop, the Chromis fell on the floor, it appears they had been hiding in a hole in the coral rock.

Now I've seen this before with Tropicals but as I'm new to Marine I want to check.

Is there anything to be worried about here, it's a new a cycled tank. All the essential readings are fine (Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Ph, Gravity etc)

I'm on day 3 now, I see one every now and then and never seen the second.

Anything to worry about? stress etc.
Anything I should do?

Dunno.... I have three chromis and they are busy little beasts. They will hide if startled though. Are there other fish in the tank? When you saw the one was it breathing heavy?

I have a group of 5 blue/green chromis and when the lights shut off they sleep in a large pukani rock. Dustin

I have one Chromis and he sleeps in a hole in the rock at night, same hole and he lets any new fish in the tank know that it is his hole too! It will be fine.

I added two fairly recently. With minimal place to hide in my tank, they still huddled in the back corner and would only really come out when fed.
After about a week, they are coming up to the glass when I enter the room, and are swimming freely.

I'd say give them a bit to settle in before you concern yourself too much.

They’ll be fine, it’s a new tank and they’re probably a little stressed out from everything give it a week everything will be all good

I have 4. After lights out they spread out t and find hiding places in rocks or by overflows. When lights come on the next day they all come out and swim together in a school.

It's likely way too early for fish its not even cycled if it's been up 3 days. Not to mention as a general rule you don't want 2 of a schooling fish. You will definitely end up with one.

As far as your initial concerns, just let them be. They are scared. No need to rip your tank apart just to scare them more.

Ok, so these are the only fish in this brand new tank righ t? They haven't come out for 3 days? Have You tried to entice them out with mysis shrimp or something? I would start to worry soon if not. Be "sure" all is cool with the water. How big is is the tank?

+1 on the Op above. Is this tank 3 days old or have the fish been there for 3 days? This is a big difference !

I agree with giving them some time to settle into their new home.

I have terrible luck keeping more than one in a tank at a time. They seem to pick on each other till there's only one left Maybe I need a bigger tank?

Unless it's a HUGE tank eventually it'll happen. I had 3 in my 150gal and once they matured from tiny fish, two are in hiding. I even feed ~5 times day

I have 10 is one tank and they do fine. It takes awhile at first but then they come out and all will be fine. Make sure if you have any die off you remove them immedialty. Also keep an eye on your ammonia if it is new. Sometimes you may get a weird spike once in awhile. Chromis need time to adjust and need to be acclimated slowly. Only the stronger ones will survive.

Normal I have 2 that swim around together all day only chase eachother during feeding. At night/when they get scared they swim to the same hole and sleep there/hide

They just need time to settle in and feel safe. I started with 2 and they hid in the corners for the first week, then only at night and would be out in the day together. I just added 2 more to make a schol and the new ones did not hide at all. Instead they joined the original 2 and have been sholling since.
